Um von einer und derselben Stromquelle aus mehrere Patienten zugleich mit elektrischen Strömen behandeln zu können oder auch einen und denselben behandelten Patienten oder Körperteil unter Anwendung zweier oder mehrerer Elektrodenpaare gleichzeitig auf verschiedenen Wegen von elektrischem Strom durchsetzen zu lassen, kann man sich in bekannter Weise sogenannter Verteiler bedienen, in welchen der elektrische Strom, den die Stromquelle liefert, mittels regelbarer Widerstände, die eine gemeinsame, mit der Stromquelle verbundene Zuleitung und getrennte Ableitung nach außen aufweisen, in der jeweilig gewünschten Weise verzweigt wird. Wollte man hierbei mit Hilfe eines und desselben Meßgerätes die Stromstärke in den verschiedenen Zweigen messen, so würde es notwendig sein, das Strommeßgerät mit Hilfe einer Schaltvorrichtung in den jeweils auf seine Stromstärke zu untersuchenden Zweig zu legen. Dies würde jedoch im allgemeinen mit einer Stromunterbrechung verbunden sein.
