Description
Method for feeding airship engines. It's with airships has already been proposed to use the buoyancy gas in the balloon as a motor gas to use, namely cooling water to bring about a weight balance to be needed. However, a weight balance cannot be achieved in this way, because the ballast loss is the weight of the cooling water used during engine operation is considerably greater than the loss of load capacity. This procedure has in particular for longer journeys, for example ocean journeys, there is still the disadvantage, that as a result of the evaporation, a significantly larger amount of cooling water is carried along must than is actually required for the operation of the motors and consequently a Corresponding to the extraordinarily high additional weight of cooling water, the loss is just as great of workload is recorded.
According to the invention, the above-mentioned inconveniences are eliminated by that to achieve the weight balance in connection with the consumption of buoyancy gas liquid oxygen is used as the engine gas, but that in itself in engines has found use before. This makes all the oxygen one represents absolutely necessary operating material and not carrying it like that of the cooling water means a loss of payload, a weight balance is achieved, without taking an otherwise unnecessarily large amount of fuel into the air.
If luminous gas is used in the balloon or in a special compartment than in the Motor uses lift gas to be burned, so an approximately perfect Achieve weight balance.
According to the invention is for the charge of the combustion chamber Airship engines use lifting gas from the balloon body as well as oxygen, either as liquid oxygen or as an oxygen-containing liquid or but as by evaporation of liquid oxygen or oxygen-containing liquid generated gas enters the combustion chamber. It does not matter whether the mixture of the gas with the oxygen inside or outside the combustion chamber he follows.
The shape of the balloon is also maintained here by suitable means.
The advantage of the method according to the invention can be seen in that the buoyancy of the balloon remains practically constant - without any buoyancy gas escapes unused into the outside air.
