Die Doppelschindel hat den Zweck, eine wasser- und winddichte Unterlage für Schieferund sonstige Dächer zu bilden. Um die Nachtheile zu beseitigen, welche durch das Zusammentrocknen und Werfen der früheren Bretter- und Lattenunterlagen und die hieraus folgenden Undichtigkeiten entstehen, ist die Doppelschindel aus einem Schnitt senkrecht zur Axe eines Baumstammes, Fig. ι und 2, gewonnen, so dafs ein Werfen oder Verlaufen, endlich auch die Bildung von Holzritzen oder Sprüngen vermieden wird. Durch den gleichmäfsigen Maschinenschnitt sind die Schindeln ferner in ihrer Fuge so accurat, dafs sie vollkommen wasserdicht schliefsen; endlich gestattet ihre bedeutende Länge, welche je nach Bedarf bis 1,20 m beträgt, sie ohne Anwendung von Dachlatten quer auf die Dachsparren, Fig. 4, aufzunageln und so die wohlfeilste von allen bisherigen Dachunterlagen zu bilden.The purpose of the double clapboard is to provide a waterproof and windproof underlay for slate and to form other roofs.
