Man
Process for operating electrical melting furnaces in which a glow tube

the parts of the resistor body which are closest to the power supply electrodes
(Glow tube) usually has a lower temperature than the middle parts.
This drop in temperature is very noticeable when it is very high

'This deficiency can be remedied by attaching the glow tube to the relevant

to change a part.
Accordingly, the invention consists in a new method of operation for
electric resistance furnace, which consists in that at individual points during
of operation, the temperature by reducing the conductive cross-section of the
Glow tube is increased. In practice, the process is carried out in such a way that
at the moment in which the temperature increase is to take place on the relevant
Place or the relevant places of the glowing glow tube an oxidizing gas,
z. B. air or oxygen is inflated. Depending on the material of the glow tube
The reduction in cross-section takes place in an externally perceptible form

instead of at the points of oxidation. In both cases there is a reduction in the
conductive cross section. It is known per se, the glow tube of an electric

which the conductive cross-section or the conductivity is reduced for the purpose of higher heating

Furnace, - but in the glow tube production as a measure to produce a glow tube
of certain properties.
A facility for doing this
The method is shown schematically in the drawing, namely Fig. X
a section through the axis of the furnace, FIG. 2 a section perpendicular thereto.
gelangt. The glow tube f, which is of an inner heat protection jacket e and a
outer jacket d is surrounded, and the heating current in the usual way by electrodes

at the lower end over the circumference distributed three nozzles m opposite, which on through the
Compressed air pipes l are connected to both heat protection jackets. In the company
of the furnace, the middle of the glow tube takes on a higher temperature than the ends.
As a result, the metal contained in the crucible tube g arrives in this zone first
for melting .. If melting has now started in this zone, the
