Description
As is well known, serves in medicine, ferrolactate (C3 H5 03) 2 Fe -f- 3 H2 O is used as Ferrumlacticum Iron preparation in the form of a pale yellow crystal powder. In contrast, Ferri is lactate hitherto only as a brown, amorphous substance that dissolves and is decomposed by water of fluctuating composition (see: Manual dictionary of chemistry 4, 1886, p.453).
It has been found that lactic acid is associated with iron oxide and alkalis characteristic, poorly soluble, crystalline compounds provides from the general Composition Fe (C3 H4 O $) 2 M, + n H20, where Me means: Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs resp. NH4 and other ammonium groups.
The corresponding sodium ferric lactate is particularly sparingly soluble and stable Fe (C3 H4 03) 2 Na - 2 H2 O, which forms a pale green, finely crystalline powder. Before ferrolactate, the new preparation has the medical advantage of that it is tasteless and reacts neutrally. The poor solubility allows Lactic acid is separated in this form even from complicated fermentation mixtures such as B. from glycerine pitch. In the cyanotype, the salt can be used in place of ferric ammonium citrate serve, likewise in tannery and dyeing, as one in warmth and at Steaming developable iron stain. Presentation: The formation of this complex ferric sodium lactate takes place in the evaporation of weakly acidic mixtures, if you z. B. ferric chloride corresponding to 30 parts of iron with 10 parts of lactic acid, = 20 parts of anhydrous soda mixed with stirring in about 1,000 parts of water, if necessary with lactic acid weakly acidified and concentrated almost to dryness on the water bath. The secluded Greenish white crystal powder is stirred with water, filtered off with suction and washed. The yield of air-dry salt is 16o to 7o parts. Instead of the pure Lactic acid can also contain lactic acid-containing fermentation residues in the same way Use quantitative ratio, separating it from the other salts or additions does not present any difficulties because this ferric sodium lactate is more common in water Temperature is practically insoluble. Also weak diluted acids as well as weak ones Alkalis, such as B. sodium bicarbonate, act very slowly. While cooking hydrolysis is gradual with water.
The complex character of the new connection follows from the indifference against potassium ferrocyanide and potassium rhodium in neutral liquid.
