Dabei muß in Kauf genommen werden, daß die Auflage an keiner Stelle unmittelbar mit dem Metalltitan verbunden ist, sondern lediglich auf der Titanoxidschicht haftet, mit der sich Titan und Titanlegierungen im Kontakt mit Luftsauerstoff spontan überziehen. Die Haftung der Auflage ist daher nicht befriedigend. Das gilt insbesondere dann, wenn man die Auflage im Wege des Flammspritzens (DE-OS 23 13 678) aufbringt. Um auf insbesondere Zahnimplantate aus Titan oder aus einer Titanlegierung eine Interferenzoberflächenschicht aus Aluminiumoxid, Siliciumnitrid oder dergleichen aufzubringen, ist es bekannt (DE-OS 26 32 932), mit einem Ionenstrahl zu arbeiten, die Auflage also im Wege der Ionenplattierung aufzubringen.
