verwenden lassen.
Die Verbindungen der Formel I sind in reinem Zustand
farblos und bilden flüssigkristalline Mesophasen in
4r
^ 3333161
einem für die elektrooptisch^ Verwendung günstig gelegenen
Temperaturbereich.
Vor- und nachstehend haben R,R,A,A,A,Z,

Verbindungen der Formel I umsetzt.
Verbindungen der Formel I umsetzt.
333316
R1-(A1)m-Z1-(A2)n-Z2-(A3)o-S(0.)p_1-R2 Il
12 12 3 12
worin R,R,A,A,A,Z,Z, m, η, ο und ρ die angegebene Bedeutung haben,
oxidiert.
worin R,R,A,A,A,Z,Z, m, η, ο und ρ die angegebene Bedeutung haben,
oxidiert.
Will man die Sulfoxide erhalten, so oxidiert man
die entsprechenden Thioether der Formel II (p = 1) beispielsweise mit Wasserstoffperoxid, Persäure, Cr(VI)-Verbindungen
wie Chromsäure, Salpetersäure, nitrosen Gasen, N„0,, Halogenen wie Chlor, Hypochloriten,
KMnO., N-Bromsuccinimid, 1-Chlorbenztriazol, Ce(IV)-Verbindungen
Will man dagegen

R1-^1) -Z1- (A2) -Z2-(A3) -Halogen III
m no

zutropfen. Nach 8stündigem Stehenlassen und üblicher Aufarbeitung erhält man 4-Ethylsulfonyl-4'-(trans-4-pentylcyclohexyl)-biphenyl.
