Method of making a hard rubber substitute. For the production
a hard rubber substitute already has a mixture of a condensation product
from carbolic acid and formaldehyde, the fillers (e.g. scrap rubber, rubber dust,
Sulfur, black lead, asbestos flour, precipitated silica) and dyes (e.g. Frankfurt black)
were added, heated in an open container at roo °. The one that has become tough when heated
Mass can then be shaped into any shape. The so produced
Objects are, however, brittle, so that this substance is suitable for many industrial
Not particularly well suited to purposes. Tests have shown that a significantly better
The result is achieved if you use the same mixture, but without regenerated rubber, and
the scrap rubber regeneration treats each one for itself.
-The procedure consists in this: The scrap rubber is crushed for so long
until it gets soft. In this state, heated additives are added to it, e.g.
B. Asbestos flour, Frankfurt black, black lead, sulfur, rubber dust and precipitated
Silica. These substances are exposed to carbolic acid and formaldehyde
exposed. The rubber is mixed with these additives until the mass
has become so tough that it can still be rolled out into thin sheets, which then
can be used for shaping and eating. The @ 4 'application_of is particularly important
Carbolic acid and formaldehyde, durcE'-welehe -the hard rubber substitute his deril hard rubber
peculiar properties, hardness and insulating properties. This product
is brought to its hardness in three stages according to the process z. when warming up
with the additive. 2. on the rolling mill when mixing with the scrap rubber regenerate
and 3rd under the press. The most important process takes place on the rolling mill, where
The real reaction going on is due to the hardness and toughness of the mass
can be seen. Example: On a rolling mill as used for rubber production
100 kg of regenerated rubber is crushed and rolled until it is soft
will. Additives are added to this mass. They consist of 14 kilogram parts
Asbestos flour, 28 kilogram parts Frankfurt black, 1q. Parts of the weight lead,
28 kg parts sulfur, 27 kg parts rubber dust, 13 kg parts precipitated
Silicic acid, 70 kg parts carbolic acid, 70 kg parts formaldehyde. These
Substances are stirred together in a vessel and warmed up to 6o 'for a few hours.
This then creates a stiff mass. This mass then becomes the soft grated
Reclaimed rubber added. Mixing continues until the
Can be rolled out mass into thin plates, which can then be used for molding and pressing
are. The pressing and shaping of the mass is carried out in the same way as in the manufacture
of real hard rubber, but has the advantage that the mass is only very short
it takes about half an hour to be vulcanized.
