Description

Process for the production of fireproof and insulating Cardboard by treating it with caustic alkalis and water glass. It is known, Cardboard: to be impregnated by first treating it with hot, concentrated alkali soaked and then into a hot, diluted; Solution of a soluble silicate brings. In contrast, the present method is that a mixture made of water glass and caustic alkali and with this the cardboard to be impregnated is saturated. This ensures that both impregnation liquids in intimate connection evenly distributed through all layers of the cardboard (wood pulp) and come into effect in all parts together. This effect exists u. a. in that the impregnated cardboard becomes fire-proof and heat-insulating, too gains great hardness and strength. This impregnation also gives it resistance against chemical influences and against the destructive effects of organisms. To present process impregnated cardboard would be z. B. for the production of objects, where heat resistance is important, such as sealing rings for steam pipes, or for the production of fireproof walls, for packaging material and others Suitable for purposes that require high strength and low weight.
