Description
Process for the production of white lead. The invention relates to a Process for the production of white lead. As is well known, white lead becomes like the old one Dutch process produced in such a way that one leads strips, lead plates or the like gradually exposed to the damp vapors fron acetic acid and) at the same time Oxygen and. Carbonic acid can act on it, whereby the primarily formed Lead acetate is converted into carbonate. This procedure takes a very long time in claim, makes extensive equipment necessary, which is why it is almost entirely has given up. Also, the same is very harmful to the workers' health as they Having to scrape off the white lead that has formed from the unchanged lead, which leads to lead poisoning develop. To avoid this inconvenience, several precipitation processes have been proposed, lead acetate solution was first prepared and carbonic acid was introduced into this solution causing basic lead carbonate to precipitate. The disadvantage of all of these procedures over against your old Dutch practice is that while you are through the latter receives an amorphous, non-crystalline lead carbonate in the precipitation process a finely crystalline compound is formed, which has less opacity than that has white lead produced by the Dutch process.
The present invention provides the production of a amorphous, non-crystalline basic lead carbonate, which according to the Dutch Process produced white lead is equivalent to opacity. The new procedure is just as cheap and! fast, like the well-known Fälhingsverfahren and stands out compared to these, apart from the better quality of the end product, by one appreciably lower consumption of acetic acid. The essence of the invention consists in that one remelted, anhydrous lead oxide, i.e. so-called black lead, which is as free as possible from metallic lead, such as can be obtained, for example, by treatment of molten lead at about 40o ° C with a superheated air-steam generator, So about your method of the German patent 228729, received, with the fumes treated with dilute acetic acid and gaseous carbon dioxide with constant agitation, whereby there may be as little water vapor in the acetic acid vapors as is necessary for the formation of the oxygen hydrate in white lead. An overshoot on Moisture has the formation of water of crystallization; i.e. crystalline white lead and must be avoided at all costs. To an excess of To avoid moisture with certainty, one leads one to z6 °, for example A stream of air and carbonic acid warmed up to a maximum of 60 ° C via a dilute Vessel containing acetic acid and arranged in or next to the reaction chamber, wherein the heated gas stream vapors of acetic acid with a sufficient moisture content records. If the temperature of the gas stream never exceeds 60 ° C, and it is not even once necessary to go so high, it contains Steam only as little moisture as is sufficient for the formation of basic white lead. There is therefore only too little water vapor in the atmosphere of the reaction chamber that never crystalline lead, i.e. crystalline white lead, can form.
The procedure is therefore the Dutch lead procedure (see T h o r p e, Dictionary of Applied Chemistry, Vol. 3, p. 285) reproduced; meanwhile goes the present process is based on lead oxide and not metallic lead, and because also through constant movement for an intimate and! even touch the individual substances that react with each other are provided with carbonic acid, In contrast to the Dutch procedure, procedure i is fast, so that the conversion of lead oxide into white lead is completed in a short time.
A similar process is already in place for the production of white lead suggested from lead oxide (see American patent 4,432,78d.). There is however the lead oxide chosen as the starting material, as in the patent specification Specified method of manufacture Arises, melts and must be in considerable quantities contain metallic lead. The conversion of molten lead oxide into white lead I caused great difficulties as acetic acid fumes and. Carbonated the melted Attack lead oxide very slowly and with difficulty and the simultaneous presence of metallic Lead, which is hardly changed in the process, makes the white lead unusable. Incidentally, molten lead oxide can only be converted in the presence of an excess of water vapor in front of it, and this in turn causes the formation of crystalline White lead.
In the Austrian patent 57705 there is a method of manufacture described by white lead, also primed lead oxide; diluted Acetic acid and carbonic acid for mutual action. get on each other. In the meantime the action takes place in the presence of large amounts of water, as lead oxide is suspended in water, so that, as mentioned above, the formation of a crystal water containing, crystalline white lead must take place, whereas in the present process only just enough moisture is present that the black lead during the Conversion to white lead always remains dry.
The method is expediently carried out with an apparatus which is described in shown in the accompanying drawing. A is a horizontal cylinder that is inside is provided with a shaft on which screw wings B are keyed, the serve as a stirrer. C is a feed tube fitted with a gate valve, through which the lead oxide is introduced into the mixing cylinder A from time to time. To the side of this mixing cylinder, a chamber D is arranged, which has a container contains dilute acetic acid. Carbonic acid is introduced into this chamber through tube E. or a mixture of carbonic acid and air introduced together with those in the Chamber D heated acetic acid vapors through tube F into the cylinder A to be transferred. The burner K is used to heat the chamber D and the inside set up acetic acid bowl. The excess gas and steam is passed through the pipe I derived, which is also used to take samples. The educated White lead is released from time to time through the opening H, which is closed with a slide taken from the mixing cylinder.
The process is carried out in such a way that primemelted, anhydrous Black lead through tube C, which is provided with a slide valve, into the cylinder is introduced, whereupon the agitator is set in motion. The contents of the chamber D is heated to no more than 60 ° C by the flame K, a mixture of carbonic acid and air is passed over the acetic acid cup and introduced into the cylinder through tube F.
