The invention relates to the construction of a smoke consumer.

At the rear end of the furnace and above the deflector E there is a hot air chamber G which is separated from the furnace by the wall H and the part / of the deflector E. The end of the train J, which is also passed through the partition H and is in open connection with the combustion chamber B , goes through the hot air chamber. This firing channel J is at the same time connected to the latter through the holes a in its part protruding through the hot air chamber G, as can be seen from the drawing.

The perforated end of the fire draft J is oval, as shown in Fig. 4, which is a section along the line xx ; this oval or round cross-sectional shape can be maintained up to the end of the draft, which is led into the chimney L, which is arranged more or less away from the furnace.

The widening end of the chimney L is provided with a perforated diaphragm N through which the end of the fire flue / protrudes.

The inner ends of the air tubes 1,2,3 are guided into the hot air chamber G; the Tube ι lies under the perforated end of the fire train J, while tubes 3 and 2 are arranged to the side of it. The tube 4 is also an air tube, which through the Wall of the furnace goes through and ends in the furnace instead of in the hot air chamber.

The mode of action of the smoke consumer is as follows:

The funnel D ¹ is filled with coal, which is fed to the furnace by pulling the slide F up. The coal glides slowly onto the glowing coal mass on the grate C, so that this device prevents the fire door from opening each time it is put on. At the same time, however, this also prevents cold air from entering the furnace, which would be the case if the door had to be opened.

Since the smoke and the combustion products from the newly applied coals gradually sweep over the deflector E , sufficient air is supplied through the pipes 4 and 4 ¹ to ensure the combustion of the gases. In addition, air is also supplied through the holes α in order to complete the smoke and gas combustion. This air comes from the hot air chamber and has a high temperature because it passes through the tubes 1, 2, 3 respectively. ι \ 2 ', 3 ^J had to be deleted, which are directly heated by the furnace. The holes α cause the strongly heated air of the chamber G to radiate itself into the flue J and thereby to mix intimately with the smoke and the combustion products.

But this causes a more complete smoke burn.

Should unburned smoke remain as a result of a lack of air, air is also supplied through the openings of the diaphragm N , which immediately mixes with the smoke and unburned gases when they emerge from the fire draft / and makes consumption complete.

The smoke, etc. emerging from the slit end of J spreads out like a fan, and the layer of smoke is not very thick, owing to the construction of the mouth of the flue, so that it is much easier to mix the smoke with the air for the purpose of smoke consumption. The arrangement of the pipe A ¹ is made to lead air to the rear end of the grate, if the structure of the furnace is such that the air holes e cannot be used for this purpose.
