Description
Das neue Verfahren verläuft inThe main patent describes a process for the production of staple fibers from type hairs (cattail reeds), which consists in breaking down the reed - S leaves with considerably weaker lye than previously usual, namely below 1 J 2 . Percent, and the effect of the lye is promoted by mechanical action. The new procedure runs in
zwei Stufen: ; two stages;
The first extends; on the whole plant and aims to loosen and soften the fabric, without exposing the bast fiber strands themselves.
In the second stage, these are then further processed chemically and mechanically isolated,.
Since the reed leaves oppose a very strong resistance to the first attack of the digestion liquor, cooking with the very weak liquor used requires a long time, and the two stages run side by side in different places on the material. It has now been shown that to get one without affecting the final result much more quickly to the goal when the beginning of the pulping uses' a strong base of about 1 to 3'Prozent and even more, but not how it happened so far, continue cooking with this lye / until complete disintegration has been achieved, but only until the leaf sheaths have softened and the resistant epidermal layer and the other parts of the plant tissue surrounding the plant fibers have become solidified. This happens significantly faster when using the strong lye. If the leaves are cooked to the end with the original lye, the whole cooking time occurs because of the relatively large amount of liquid; which must be used, only a slight reduction in the concentration of the free alkali present in excess, from which the disrupted fiber material suffers. If, however, the further digestion is carried out according to the 'method of the main patent using a' far, weaker lye, the same result is achieved more quickly than if one starts to cook with the weaker lye from the start ”.
Man kann jetzt die überschüssige Lauge abtrennen und nach dem Auswaschen der zurückbleibenden Restlauge die weitere Behandlung des Aufschiließungs- \ gutes vornehmen oder durch1 Zufügen vonFor example, the leaves are boiled with a 1 to 2 percent sodium hydroxide solution with vigorous circulation until they are prepared in the manner discussed above for the further breakdown of the fibers with the diluted lye. You can now separate the excess lye and after washing out the remaining residual liquor, the further treatment of the Aufschiließungs- \ good make or by adding 1

Die J|i|;wjrkung stärkerer Lauge in der ersten Stufe "der Auf Schließung kann auch in dier Weise durchgeführt werden, daß manThe effect of stronger lye in the The first stage of opening up can also be carried out in the same way that one
Dieses Vorgehen ist um so vorteilhafter, Aveil durch die Einwirkung des Alkalis aus dem Aufschließungsgut in die Aufschließungslauge Stoffe gelangen, die die Eigenschaft haben, das Schäumen der Lauge zu bewirken.ίο using the same amount of alkali, as it is necessary by 1 the method of the main patent total in the digestion, cooking the leaves from the outset containing a this amount of alkali liquor of significantly greater concentration by the filled with the Aufschließungsgut Aufschließungsapparat only partially fills with lye. During cooking, the concentration of the lye goes down by itself due to the increasing consumption of alkali and sinks below the limit specified in the main patent. In order to be able to work in this way, it is necessary to ensure that the entire amount of leaves is exposed to the action of the lye. A circulation device can be used for this purpose, which sucks the lye away from the bottom of the apparatus and pours it again from above over the leaves. But one can also proceed, with particular advantage, in such a way that sufficient foaming of the alkaline digesting liquor is ensured so that the alkaline foam rises up between the leaves and causes the digestion; it is reached much more easily by the foaming liquor than by the digesting liquid itself. This procedure is all the more advantageous if the action of the alkali in the digesting liquor means that substances which have the property of foaming the liquor get into the digesting liquor cause.
In carrying out the process of digestion of reed leaves the caustic lye is in. The type described above in place of a carbonated 'or another sufficiently strongly alkaline one! acting alkali such as silicic acid alkali can be used. Its strength must be considerably higher and the cooking time also longer. It is advantageous to use caustic ammonia lyes and alkaline earth lyes instead of caustic alkali lyes.
