Sling carrycot lift

The principle of this type of bath lift is to raise and lower a bather in and out of the tub using a stretched sheet that is attached to both opposite edges of the tub and can be lengthened or shortened again. This is done by attaching two roller blind-like boxes to the wall at the rear edge of the tub on the one hand and at the front, immediately below the front edge of the tub on the outside on the other. In both roller blind boxes, the ends of the sling are fixed to a rod so that it is stretched tightly over the edges of the tub, but can be extended by rolling it up into the tub.

The bather lies down on this sling (1) - or the patient is laid down - and can be lowered into the tub (5) by simultaneously rolling up the sling from both roller blind boxes (2a + 2b) using an electric motor (3) with a remote control (4). The sling (1) simultaneously forms a non-slip surface on the tub floor (8), which can also be easily cleared for cleaning by pulling it up to the ceiling using one or two ropes (6) with a ceiling eyelet (7) (Fig. 5). Since there are basically two ways to stretch a cloth over a tub, both variants and their advantages will be described here:

1 . ) The sling bath lift with a sling stretched across the bath (Fig. 1 + 2) is - as described above - particularly suitable for installation with an electric motor (3) and remote control (4). This version is particularly suitable for older, still relatively mobile people who can take care of their personal hygiene independently, but are no longer very confident when getting in and out.

2.) The sling bath lift with a sling stretched lengthways across the bath (Fig. 3 + 4) is well suited for simpler operation with a hand crank (10), which is either attached directly to the lower roller blind box (11) so that a second person can roll up the sling rolled up in this box into the bath, or can be operated automatically in the manner of a roller blind with a play and brake line (12) guided via a ceiling eyelet; or with an electric motor (3) like the version with a cross sling. In this case, the sling (1) only extends from the roller blind (11) at the foot end of the bath, but this is not a disadvantage because the patient's body moves naturally lengthways with the

extending sling slides into the tub, while the sling attached across would inevitably cause the patient to roll if extended on one side.

The novelty of the invention lies in the simple idea of converting a sling into a bath lift for old and frail people. This is done by lowering the sling with the patient lying on it into the bath water by lengthening or shortening it (rolling it up and down) and lifting it back up to the height of the edge of the bath.

The advantages of the invention are obvious: simplicity of principle, operation and installation. Safety when transporting the patient into and out of the bathroom as well as extremely cost-effective production are also included; the highly complicated and expensive hydraulics of conventional seat lifts are eliminated.

The area of application is in the entire care sector, both at home and in hospitals, and also as an aid for geriatrics.
