Nachteile ergeben sich bis dato durch deren Größe, Gewicht und deren Flexibilität. Diese sind meist nur kleinflächig anwendbar und nicht effektiv. Desweiteren gibt es reflektierende oder phosphoreszente Materialien angebracht auf Bekleidungsstücken mit dem wesentlichen Nachteil, daß diese eine fremde Lichtquelle benötigen um den gewünschten Effekt zu erzielen.Luminous surfaces (self-luminous) on clothing of a conventional design have so far only been used to a limited extent.
