Weeding and planting spades

The invention relates to a weeding and planting spade.

To date, a digging tool has almost exclusively been used to remove weeds in the garden, but this is always done in a bent or kneeling position. There are also tools for removing weeds in an upright position, but these have not proven to be effective. Weeding still involves constant effort in an unfavorable posture. In addition, all of these tools are only suitable for loose bed soil when weeding at short intervals.

However, modern garden design is increasingly moving away from meticulously maintained flowerbed gardens and towards more natural organic gardens. People are also striving to get by with as little gardening work as possible.

However, this type of gardening also requires the removal of unwanted weeds, which have grown larger and have stronger roots. A spade must be used here. However, this is extremely hard work and involves bending down and picking up the weeds.

Planting is also increasingly no longer taking place in beds that require constant care, but rather - especially the popular ground cover plants - in areas that are already overgrown, even under densely rooted trees. In this hard soil, the usual spade is usually not sufficient, and in many cases, preparatory work has to be carried out with a pickaxe.

The invention is based on the object of making available a novel weeding and planting spade with which weeding and planting is made considerably easier.

According to the invention, this object is achieved by the features mentioned in claim 1. Preferred features that continuously develop the invention can be found in the subordinate claims.

Due to the design according to the invention, lifting up to chest height is made much easier, after which the weeds can be thrown into a waste bin without bending down. It is also advantageous to use it for planting, because the new weeding and planting spade only digs a hole exactly the size of the container plants that are the only ones commonly used today, making it easy to handle.

The much lower effort required when working with the new weeding and planting spade compared to the spades used previously is a result of the lever law. With the lever arm remaining the same, the load to be lifted is much lower due to the reduction in the spade surface. For example, if the surface of a full spade is 522 cm ² and the spade surface of the

new weeding and planting spade is 203 cm ² , i.e. only 45.7% of the area of the full spade, the weight of a layer of soil 12 cm thick with the full spade is estimated at around 6.26 kg, while with the new weeding and planting spade with an identical layer of soil thickness it is only around 2.43 kg. The advantage of this is that with the new weeding and planting spade only the amount of soil that needs to be lifted is enough to plant a container plant, for example. In the above example, the additional weight of the soil with the full spade of around 3.83 kg does not need to be lifted.

The new weeding and planting spade is also advantageous in terms of protecting neighboring plants, as only as much soil as necessary is dug out each time. This makes the new weeding and planting spade extremely easy to do heavy gardening work.

The embodiment shown in the drawing is only a preferred embodiment of the invention in terms of dimensions and design. The invention is also effective for smaller spades, although the surface proportions should then be designed accordingly.

The figure shows a weeding and planting spade 10 which has a spade surface 11 consisting of an upper section 12 with a handle holder 13, an adjoining intermediate section 14 and a lower section 15.

A force introduction section 16 extends over the approximately rectangular upper spade surface section, which is designed as a large area as part of the handle holder 13 and extends into the intermediate section 14.

The intermediate section 14 has an approximately trapezoidal floor plan, with its side walls angled at approximately 50° to the horizontal.

The lower section 15 is tapered downwards to the spade tip, with the angle of inclination of each side being approximately 87°. The width of the lower section 15 at its tip is approximately 6 cm and at its upper end approximately 7 cm, while its height is approximately 17 cm. The intermediate section 14 is 7 cm wide at its lower end and extends over a height of approximately 6 cm to its upper width of approximately 18 cm, and the upper section follows with a width of 18 cm and a height of 17 cm.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the lateral transitions of the individual surface sections are rounded.

The angle of inclination of 87° provided for the lower sections corresponds advantageously to the usual container sizes on the market for planting work. For smaller containers, a recess of less depth and a narrower opening is provided, and for larger containers, a deeper recess with a larger opening is provided.

The intermediate section 14 and the upper section 12 are particularly suitable for excavation in hard, overgrown and rooted ground, since the pressure of the foot is optimally increased so that excavation work is made considerably easier even in difficult terrain.
