Description

The invention relates to a writing instrument with an elongated holder shaft and, if necessary, a cover cap for detachable attachment to the end of the holder shaft having the writing tip, as well as with at least one non-displaceably attached ring element, the outer peripheral surface of which forms an outer surface area of the writing instrument.

Such writing instruments are known in a wide variety of forms, for example as fountain pens, ink pens, ballpoint pens, mechanical pencils, etc. The existing ring element, which can be made of metal or plastic, serves as an ornamental or decorative element in such writing instruments and is often arranged at a point where parts of the writing instrument are joined together in order to visually conceal the connecting areas.

In writing instruments of the type in question, it is also known to provide a print or engraving on the outer surface of the holder shaft or, if a cover cap is present, on the outer surface of the cover cap, which may, for example, be an advertising print, but which, in particular in the case of

high-priced writing instruments can also have the shape of the owner's name engraved.

Apart from the fact that the known prints or engravings are subject to a certain amount of abrasion due to their freely accessible arrangement on the outer surface of the writing instrument and can also be damaged by scratching the surface, so that a more protected engraving surface would actually be desirable, there is often a desire to apply an engraving to such a writing instrument which is not immediately visible on an outer surface of the holder shaft or, if applicable, the cover cap.

In order to enable the not readily visible and concealed attachment of an engraving on a writing instrument of the type mentioned at the beginning, such a writing instrument is designed according to the invention in such a way that the outer peripheral surface of the ring element has a thread onto which a ring can be screwed, wherein a stop surface is provided for the axial positioning of the ring on the ring element and wherein the outer peripheral surface of the ring element and/or the inner peripheral surface of the ring has a thread-free surface area for receiving an engraving. The ring is preferably a metal ring and the ring element can be made of metal.

In the writing instrument according to the invention, a ring can be attached to the non-displaceably attached ring element, preferably completely covering it, with a surface area between the ring and the ring element for receiving an engraving, which is preferably located on the inner circumferential surface of the ring. The desired engraving can thus be applied to this circumferential surface, which is then completely covered after the ring has been attached to the ring element, so that it is neither exposed to the risk of damage and/or abrasion, nor is it visible from the outside. It only becomes visible when the ring is unscrewed from the ring element.

The thread-free surface area is preferably ring-shaped and lies between the thread and one end of the ring element and/or ring. In this way, a surface is formed for receiving an engraving, the width of which is determined by the dimensions of the ring or ring element and thread, and the length of which is determined by the diameter of the ring element. The engraving is relatively large, so that a name and possibly a date or the like can easily be engraved into this surface.

In a preferred embodiment, both the ring element and the ring have ring-shaped, thread-free surface areas, and the diameter of the thread-free surface area of the ring element is equal to the nominal diameter of the thread of the ring element, while the diameter of the thread-free surface area of the ring is at least equal to the nominal diameter of the thread of the ring. In this way, the thread-free surface area of the ring is located radially further out than the threads of the thread of the ring, and the ring can thus be pushed with its thread-free surface area from the end of the ring element that has the thread onto it until the threads of the ring and ring element come into contact and the ring is then screwed onto the ring element by appropriate rotation.

The stop surface is preferably formed by an annular shoulder on the ring, whereby the annular shoulder can be provided at the end of the ring opposite the thread-free surface area. In this case, when the ring is screwed onto the ring element, it is pulled against the threaded end of the ring element, thereby resulting in a firm and positioned fit of the ring on the ring element, which is more reliable than a fit that would result if the ring were screwed against a stop surface on the ring element.

If the writing instrument according to the invention has a cover cap, the ring element can be provided on the cover cap.

The writing instrument shown in Figure 1, which can be a fountain pen, for example, has a holder shaft 1, onto the front end of which a conventional cap 2 is placed, which covers the writing tip present at the front end of the holder shaft 1. The cap 2 carries a conventional clip 3 which is formed in one piece with a ring 4 which is placed on a rear section of the cap 2 and secured by screwing a conical element 5 onto the rear end of the cap 2.

As can be seen in particular from Figure 2, a ring element 6 made of metal is embedded in the material of the cap, which protrudes radially slightly over the wall of the cap 2, which is usually made of plastic, with a central area that is wide in the axial direction, while areas that do not protrude radially over the cap wall extend in opposite axial directions. A ring 10, also made of metal, has an internal thread 11 near one end, which corresponds to the external thread 7 of the ring element 6, and has a contact shoulder 13 at the axial end adjacent to the thread 11. A thread-free, annular surface area 12 runs from the side of the thread 11 opposite the contact shoulder 13 to the axial end of the ring 10, the diameter of the surface area 12 being at least equal to or larger than the nominal diameter of the thread 11.

The ring 10 can be pushed with its thread-free surface area 12 from the opening side of the cap 2 onto the cap and onto the ring element 6 until the end of the thread 11 adjacent to the thread-free surface area 12 comes to rest on the end of the thread 7 of the metal element. The ring 10 can now be screwed onto the ring element 6 until the ring shoulder 13 rests on the thread-side end of the middle area of the ring element 6. In this position of the ring 10 in relation to the ring element 6 (Figure 4), which is precisely defined by the bearing shoulder 13, the ring 10 covers the entire middle area of the ring element 6, so that it cannot be seen that the ring 10 forms a detachably attached component.

The thread-free surface area 8 of the ring element 6 or, particularly preferably, the thread-free surface area 12 of the ring 10 can be provided with an engraving which is not visible from the outside when the ring 10 is screwed onto the ring element 6, but becomes visible when the ring 10 is removed from the ring element 6.

Writing instrument with an elongated holder shaft (1) and optionally a cover cap (2) for detachable placement on the end of the holder shaft (1) having the writing tip, and with at least one non-displaceably attached ring element (6), the outer circumferential surface of which forms an outer surface area of the writing instrument, characterized in that the outer circumferential surface of the ring element (6) has a thread (7) onto which a ring (10) can be screwed, a stop surface (13) being provided for the axial positioning of the ring (10) on the ring element (6), and the outer circumferential surface of the ring element (6) and/or the inner circumferential surface of the ring (10) having a thread-free surface area (8; 12) for receiving an engraving. 2. Writing instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that the ring (10) is a metal ring. 3. Writing instrument according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the ring element (6) consists of metal. 4. Writing instrument according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the thread-free surface area (8; 12) is ring-shaped and lies between the thread (7; 11) and one end of the ring element (6) and/or ring (10). 5. Writing instrument according to claim 4, characterized in that both the ring element (6) and the ring (10) have ring-shaped, thread-free surface areas (8; 12), that the diameter of the thread-free surface area (8) of the ring element (6) is equal to the diameter of the thread (7) of the ring element (6) and that the diameter of the thread-free surface area (12) of the ring (10) is at least equal to the nominal diameter of the thread (11) of the ring (10). 6. Writing instrument according to one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the stop surface is formed by an annular shoulder (13) on the ring (10). 7. Writing instrument according to claim 6, characterized in that the annular shoulder (13) is provided at the end of the ring (10) opposite the thread-free surface area (12). 8. Writing instrument according to one of claims 1 to 7 with a cover cap (2), characterized in that the ring element (6) is provided on the cover cap (2).
