Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
Es ist bekannt, Petroleum und ähnliche Kohlenwasserstoffe in eine feste Form überzuführen, und zwar entweder durch Vereinigung mit harten Öl- oder Harzseifen, oderIt is known to convert petroleum and similar hydrocarbons into a solid form, either by combining with hard oil or resin soaps, or
The former method has the disadvantage that the oil flows out when the solid fuel produced from it is burned and therefore this is unsuitable for grate firing; those made by the latter process Fuels, on the other hand, are not water-resistant and only then in a permanently solid form to be transferred if animal glue is used and hardened after solidification.
This last way is based on processes according to which animal glue is heated liquefied and mixed with so much petroleum until it is completely thickened. Then the mass is either allowed to air dry or the glue is hardened, d. H. leads him into a water-insoluble form by tanning substances such as formaldehyde ^ chromic acid, Iron sulfate or similar over. For example, crystallized ferrous sulfate is used, which naturally cannot exert a hydrating effect, but rather the glue substance exclusively as tanning, d. H. precipitating substance acts. This method is also relatively cumbersome and not cheap, so that an extensive 3 <> Use for the production of fuel and heating fuel can not come into question.
The present invention, however, relates to a very simple process for solidifying petroleum and similar hydrocarbons, oils, tar, etc. and is based on the production of known emulsion masses from suitable colloidal substances and the oils concerned, etc., such colloids being preferred that enable the highest possible quality and consistent masses and are easily solidified. These masses can become solid by lying in the air for a long time and with suitable filling material, but as a result usually remain water-soluble and not very stable. Such viscous emulsion masses, which must contain as little water as possible, can now solidify immediately if they are incorporated in the finest possible distribution, preferably with a part of the oil to be solidified, with hydrating substances, such as quick lime, incorporated the surprising fact shows that with about γ τ the theoretically necessary amount of lime, calculated on the water used, the intended effect of solidification is preferred.

lieh erreicht. Gleichzeitig wird die Masse wasserbeständig. Folgendes ganz allgemein gehaltene Beispiel möge das Verfahren illustrieren: lent achieved. At the same time, the mass becomes water-resistant. The following in general The example held may illustrate the procedure:
100 g of thickened sulphite pulp liquor are gradually processed into a stiff mass with 1400 g of petroleum and 100 g of water and 40 g of burnt lime in a finely pulverized state, mixed with about 40 g of petroleum, are added. Once the lime is evenly distributed, the mass quickly thickens and eventually solidifies into a hard lump. It is advisable to add some filler material, such as peat, wood flour, brown coal, coke, straw waste, fiber material, etc., before adding the lime, and press any desired shaped pieces out of the not yet completely solidified mass. You can change this within wide limits, you can use a wide variety of oils, resin, pitch, paraffin, asphalt, wax etc. Use solutions and colloids, as well as use other hydrating substances instead of quicklime, just as the addition and selection of fillers can be handled very differently.
. ,■· . . " .It is essential to the emulsion mass as intimately and with small amounts of To process water and colloid substance, so that the oil to be solidified predominates and the hardened mass becomes water-resistant. Without the area of use somehow ^ u limit, the masses achieved should primarily be used as fuels, mineral or tar oils as well as thickened cellulose waste are preferably suitable for this purpose are. The latter is due to its ability to absorb the oils as well as its rapid hardening on the addition of lime the previously known cheapest emulsion carrier, which also offers a calorific value that should not be underestimated and as cheap Waste material in the present process is an important recycling option offers. Nitrogenous. Masses such as animal glue or casein are less relevant to this Recommended because they delay combustion, spread unpleasant smells and are quite expensive. However, the method can also advantageously be used for production solid masses of asphalt, wax, tar, pitch, resin, oils of all kinds, etc., by one these substances are highly emulsified in a suitable manner and optionally after addition at the end suitable fillers solidified with a hydrating agent. Such a one Application of the process offers the technically extremely valuable possibility For example, a hard, resistant floor covering made from biturns in road construction to obtain, in the production of which the annoying, expensive and dangerous melting of the Bitumen is avoided. For this purpose, the emulsion mass in question is mixed from bitumen with a suitable aggregate, such as sand etc., and then gives the lime or another hydrating substance and processes this mass on the to be covered Floor, where it hardens completely after a few hours. That by the small addition Water not bound by lime evaporates quickly in the air and is of no importance for the durability of the floor covering, since the use of only very small amounts of emulsion carriers compared to the The emulsifying mass of the emulsion character is disturbed and the .Water resistance achieved will. . , ■ ·. . ".
It is still a process for solidifying emulsions by adding them hydrating salts known, but it happens there. Solidification so that everything in the Water contained in the emulsion is bound and an appropriate amount of salt is used will. In addition, this emulsion should the Have the property of remaining water-soluble and, when diluted with water, form an emulsion again admit.
The effect achieved is based, as it was, before stated, in the present process, that the water of the emulsion carrier itself is largely withdrawn and this solidifies as a result. Since the same now through the Whole emulsion structure is finely distributed, a solid skeleton arises from it, which requires great resilience. Of course, emulsions can also be used solidify with a lower content of oils, etc., but then it is necessary accordingly larger quantities of lime, and such masses would only come in there as expedient Question where the emulsion carrier is also important for the intended purpose. For example you get a high-quality fuel from roughly equal parts mineral or tar oil and sulphite waste liquor, the even without lime or other solidifying agents, simply by adding filler material are easily malleable, but then the calorific value of the oil is so reduced that the advantage is only insignificant compared to other heating fuels. When using SuI-fitablauge The process also offers a further great recovery of this cheap and annoying waste, the advantage of solidification still being there; that the in The sulfuric acid present in the lye is bound by lime and the resulting Masses become even more stable.
