Description

KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL

PATENTAMTPATENT OFFICE

B. Gußeisen, kohlenstoff reichen Stahl u. dgl. in Form von Spänen, Schnitzeln usw. verwenden oder Carbide des Molybdäns, WoIf-When treating gas mixtures containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen Pressure with catalysts according to the method of patents 293787 and 295202 may occur Delays in reaction particularly when using metallic catalysts in that the effect is initially small and only gradually increases in strength. It has now been found that a satisfactory effect is guaranteed from the outset achieved when using metallic contact masses that chemically convert carbon contained in bound or dissolved form. In this respect they are practically borrowed by name the carbides of the metals of the iron group into consideration, as well as the metals mentioned in only partially carburized form, as you can z. B. by treating iron easily gets with hydrocarbons or carbon monoxide in heat; furthermore one can also z. B. cast iron, carbon-rich steel and the like. In the form of chips, chips, etc. use or carbides of molybdenum, WoIf-

Use rams and other suitable metals. The masses can still be replaced by alkali and the like. to be activated. For example, one assumes a gas mixture that, in addition to hydrogen contains equal or superior amounts of carbon oxide, and treats this at 300 to 400 ° under a pressure of 50 to 100 atmospheres.

One has already seen the synthetic production of ammonia from the elements worked using the rare earth carbides. But none of this offered yet Evidence that it is advantageous in the present completely different type of catalysis would be to use carbonaceous metals as catalysts.
