Seating furniture with removable backrest

The invention relates to a piece of seating furniture comprising an upholstered support frame and at least one backrest detachably attached thereto.

It is known to provide upholstered furniture, particularly armchairs and sofas or loungers, with a wooden base frame and to provide the backrests and possibly armrests with a plate-shaped core which can be detachably connected to the support frame so that the furniture can be transported with the backrests removed in a space-saving manner. The assembly of the backrests to the support frame is relatively complex and the wooden base frame requires a considerable amount of reinforcement in order to absorb the transverse forces exerted on the backrests.

The object of the invention is to disclose a significantly simpler construction of the seating furniture and to enable a simplification of the assembly and disassembly of the backrests.

The solution consists in the support frame containing a metal support frame in or on which at least two sockets are attached, into which a plug-in bracket is releasably engaged and/or inserted with its ends, which is the core of the backrest.

The support frame is preferably made of square tubing and fitted with the bushings, which are preferably welded or soldered in. The bracket is also bent from a simple tube and its ends are machined in a punching device. The upholstery material

and if necessary spring elements, e.g. spring slats, are covered with the upholstery material. Polyurethane foam is particularly suitable for this. The whole thing is covered with a cover material, which enables different types of covers to be easily exchanged and makes storage much easier if different covers are offered.

The locking bar is preferably arranged inside the support frame, which passes through the two sockets belonging to a plug-in bracket as well as the bracket ends of the plug-in bracket, locking them together.

Preferably, a swivel bolt is used which engages transversely into the slotted bracket ends and in the locking position is twisted into extensions of the bracket ends and thus holds them in their inserted position in a form-fitting manner.

For ease of use, the socket recesses in which the locking bar is inserted are provided with a narrower extension, which accommodates the flat locking bar in the unlocked position and thus holds it in this position as long as the backrest is not fully pushed in and locked. This allows the lock to be moved into the unlocked position and left unoperated while the backrest is inserted with both hands, and after the backrest has been fully inserted, the locking occurs automatically by moving the locking bar due to the released pivoting as a result of the spring force, without any further operation being necessary and can sometimes be forgotten.

A side handle is conveniently arranged on the locking bar, which is to be located under the cushion

so that it is invisible but easily accessible in case of dismantling.

The locking bar is conveniently moved into its locking position by a spiral or helical spring. This spring is conveniently housed in the support frame tube and is thus protected during foaming, just like the locking bar.

Depending on the design of the piece of furniture, the sockets can be arranged so that they open upwards, downwards or to the side. The openings are usually closed by the elastic upholstery, so that it is not a question of whether an armrest is inserted or omitted or how the fitting is carried out, e.g. on the right or left side. This means that a standard base frame can be used for a wide range of upholstered furniture and a standard bracket can also be incorporated into the various types of backrest.

Various types of locking cross-sections and designs of the recesses in the sockets and plug-in brackets have been found to be useful. It is particularly simple to make the recesses circular and to slot the bracket radially in the plug-in direction and to expand the recess in the socket radially in the opposite direction to the plug-in direction as a narrow extension. The locking bar is selected to match the recess in terms of its diameter and is flattened on both sides so that it can pass through the slot and finds its unlocked position in the extension of the socket recess.

Fit. The slots of the bracket ends each end in a semicircle, which extends laterally over the slot by a quarter circle, so that when swiveled by 90°, the flattened locking bar has a defined locking position, with the locking bar supporting a positive fit in a semicircular manner upwards and forming an abutment against the bracket end being pulled out along a radius.

In a further embodiment, the slots of the bracket ends each end in an incomplete circle, into which protruding pin-shaped stops are left, which form defined positive-locking stop surfaces on the flattened locking bar in the direction of insertion and in the opposite direction.

Of course, instead of the swivel lock, a sliding lock can also be provided, in which the round locking sections fully enter the recess of the bushing and the bracket, and wherein the detent spring is arranged axially acting on the locking rod.

Figure 1 shows a piece of seating furniture in schematic form. The seat contains a support frame TR made of rectangular tubing. The side tubes and the rear tube of the support frame TR are fitted with bushings B into which plug-in brackets SB are inserted, which are covered with foam backrest cushions LP. The support frame TR is also surrounded by a foam as a seat cushion SP and preferably equipped with spring elements in the foam (not shown). In the support frame tubes there are locking bars, from which locking handles RG protrude at the sides, which are arranged horizontally under the seat cushion in the locked position and can be swivelled downwards to unlock.

Figure 2 shows a section of the support frame with the support frame tube partially opened. In the example, the bushings B are inserted vertically into the tube. The bushings B have bushing recesses BA, which are circular in shape and have narrower recesses towards the top in the form of the extensions AA. The locking bar RS passes through the bushings B with the locking webs ST, which are shown flattened. These fit the extensions AA, so that the locking bar RS is held there in a raised position. A spiral or helical spring RF gives the locking bar RS a torsional preload.

The ends of the plug-in brackets SB fit into the sockets B and have plug slots SS that match the flattened areas of the locking bar RS. The plug slots SS are expanded to form circular plug recesses SA so that the locking bar RS can be

Figures 3 and 4 show the sockets B in a side view and a top view and show that the recesses BA and their extensions AA pass through both side walls. Figures 5 and 6 also show a side view and a top view of the plug bracket ends SB. These also show that the plug slots SS and the plug recesses SA pass through both sides. This provides a hold in both side walls.

Figure 7 shows schematically another embodiment of the recesses SAl, BAl with the associated extensions AAl or slots SSl. Here, the locking bar RSl is semicircularly flattened to form a semicircular locking bar STl. In the locking position shown, this has a large-area positive fit in all directions, since the recess SAl provides a semicircular support upwards and forms a stop downwards according to a radius.

The design in Figure 8 also shows a particularly high form-fit of the locking bar ST2, which is flattened on both sides, in its locking position, since the recesses BA2, SA2 in the socket and in the end of the bracket are not fully circular, but contain residual gussets Zl, Z2, which each form a stop in the plug-in direction or against the plug-in direction when the flattened locking bar is in the locking position.

Claims (9)

Protection claims 1. Seating furniture consisting of an upholstered support frame and at least one releasably attached backrest, characterized in that the support frame contains a metal support frame (TR) in or on which at least two bushings (B) are fastened, in which a plug-in bracket (SB) is releasably engaged with its ends and/or inserted, which is the core of the backrest. 2. Seating furniture according to claim 1, characterized in that the support frame (TR) is covered with a seat cushion (SP) and the plug-in bracket (SB) is optionally covered with a backrest cushion (LP) made of upholstery foam, in particular polyurethane, which optionally contains spring elements. 3. Seating furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the support frame (TR) is made of steel tubing and a locking bar (RS) is arranged in it, which engages in a locking manner through the bushings (B) belonging to a plug-in bracket (SB) and its bracket ends. 4. Seating furniture according to claim 3, characterized in that the bushings (B) consist of round tubes and have transverse recesses (BA) with a narrower extension (AA) in the plug-in direction and the plug-in bracket ends have plug slots (SS) which extend into plug recesses (SA), and the locking bar (RS) has locking webs (ST) at least in the sections passing through the bushings (B), the narrow web width (SW*) of which corresponds to a slot width (SW) and a Extension width (AAW) in loose fit and whose larger web width (STB) in loose fit corresponds to the width of the transverse recess (BA) and the connector recesses (SA). 5. Seating furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the plug recess (SA) and the transverse recess (BA) are round and the extension (AA) and the plug slot (SS) are arranged radially to the transverse recess (BA) against the plugging direction radially to the plug recess (SA) in the plugging direction and that the locking rod (RS) is a matching round rod or a flattened tube that is flattened like the locking web (ST). 6. Seating furniture according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the plug recess (SA1) and the transverse recess (BAl) are 3/4 circular and the extension (AAl) and the plug slot (SSl) are arranged tangentially and in their width corresponding to the radius, and the locking web (RSl) is flattened in a semicircle. 8. Seating furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the locking bar (RS) is held in the support frame (TR) under load by a locking spring (RF), which is preferably a coil or spiral spring. 9. Seating furniture according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the locking bar (RS) carries a radial locking handle (RG) which is arranged hidden under the seat cushion (SP) and accessible from below.
