Window sill, pivoting Description

The purpose of the invention is to enable the opening of windows and similar flaps in frames that contain a window sill and are set in niches or recesses, even if this window sill is heavily laden with decorative or everyday objects or must be constantly covered with utensils for reasons of space or order.

In order to be able to open such a window or flap wide, the entire window sill must first be cleared to allow the swinging window sash to pass. The problem particularly affects plant lovers in the home who fill their window sills with numerous flower pots; briefly airing the room or cleaning the window is then not possible without a lot of clearing work.

These problems are solved by a pivoting window sill (7) that is connected to flat supports (4) via rotatable and/or extendable flat articulated arms (5) that are mounted to a flat, wide main support (2) with hinges with movement limitation (3) and connected to the lower part of the window sash (1).

The function is as follows: When the window is opened, the new, freely movable window sill is guided straight out of the window recess together with the flower pots or similar (drawing B) and then, when the dead points of the outgoing articulated arms (5) are reached, it is swiveled sideways until it is again moved sideways against the window sash, which can then be fully swiveled or opened together with the window sill up to its end stop without being hindered by the house wall (il) and the window sill (drawing C).

One of the articulated levers (the one that is furthest away from the main window hinge) can be designed as a single piece, and its counterpart for movement compensation is indirectly formed by the window sash itself.

These pivoting window sills can be mounted on old window systems using the flat, strong supports (all supports and articulated arms should be made of steel or similar), whereby the new window sill would be slightly raised above the old window sill (OK), or they can be fully integrated into the window in new construction. Old windows should be reinforced somewhat.

By applying a suitable surface treatment (marble or similar) to the new, hollow pivoting window sill, the old window sill can be imitated in its appearance. The limited movement hinges (3) between the supports (2) mounted or integrated on the window sash and the short support arms (4) to the articulated arms (5) allow the window sash to be tilted, as is possible with most windows, without being hindered by the new window sill attached below when full opening is not intended. The limited movement of the hinges secures the window sill against folding down in the opposite direction of rotation when fully opened.

When renovating old buildings with new window sills, it is possible to install wider and more attractive window sills at the same time.

A fine, raised edge should be provided on the window sill to prevent, for example, flower pots or other objects from slipping and falling if they are used improperly (jerky movements). Of course, such pivoting window sills can also be manufactured for longer or multi-part window sashes that swing out to the left and right, e.g. with a central joint.
