Abstract

An electrical traction force sensor has a measurement body in the form of a housed rod (6) connected to a suspension point at its top and carrying a load on its lower end. Strain gauges (8) are mounted in the central part of the rod. It is considerably more accurate than conventional electrical traction force sensors and the effects of such error sources as torsional and flexing moments are excluded. The rod has an upper flange (7) resting on housing shoulders (4) via sliding discs (5) and a lower prismatic extension (12) protruding through a housing opening (13) with small clearance. The upper housing is suspended on a universal joint arrangement (17). The bottom of the rod is in the form of a collar (10) which rests with play on a bearing (11) fixed to the housing.
