Als Trübungsmittel für Emaillen u. dgl. werden an Stelle des Zinnoxyds Oxyde und
kieselsäurehaltige Verbindungen des Zirkoniums, und zwar in wasserfreier oder in wasserhaltiger
Form verwendet. Die vorliegende Erfindung beruht auf der Feststellung, daß die für Trübungszwecke geeigneten wasserhaltigen
Zirkonverbindungen den bisher verwendeten Verbindungen in der Wirkung überlegen
sind, wenn sie eine geringe Menge Alkali enthalten, wobei aber die trübende Wirkung
nicht an eine alkaliarme Verbindung bestimmter Zusammensetzung gebunden ist.
Ein zur Herstellung von alkalihaltigem Zirkonhydrooxyd z. B. geeignetes Verfahren besteht
dann, daß aus den Zirkonaten, welche beispielsweise durch vollständigen Aufschluß
des Zirkons mittels Alkalien o. dgl. oder aus dem Zirkonoxyd durch Behandeln mit Alkalien
o. dgl. erhalten werden, das gebundene Alkali teilweise mittels Wassers, schwacher Säuren
