Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 13. Mai 1914 ab.Patented in the German Empire on May 13, 1914.
The invention relates to a method for Drying of photographic plates, films and the like.
The properties of such panels depend to a large extent on the type of drying. It has been observed that it is not just the emergence of smooth surfaces without Cracks and bumps and the adhesion of the gelatin layer to the glass or celluloid base, but also the photosensitivity and the behavior in the developer liquids is significantly influenced by the drying process; this observation justifies the conclusion that such Bodies are not just about a drying process per se, i.e. the withdrawal of Water can act, but that during the drying with the gelatin and the Various chemical and physical changes take place on the silver bromide. These Changes depend on the temperature, the duration and type of drying process, while the dried layer is practical in the unexposed or exposed state remains permanently unchanged. So by the way the Drying the ability to use the silver bromide gelatin layer with the for use to produce the most appropriate properties.
The different ways that one has up until now to achieve an evenly sensitive and flawless silver bromide gelatin coating are mainly the following:
One leaves over the covered ones placed on racks in a darkened room Plates sweep air at a relatively high speed, which removes the moisture of the coating. In order not to extend the dry time too long, the speed of the air flow and thus the Amount of air carried can be a very large one. This has the disadvantage that Dust gets into the drying chambers, as a complete cleaning of the air by air purification devices cannot be reached.
In order to be able to carry out the drying with a smaller amount of air, one has therefore dried air applied. Apart from the resulting larger ones This procedure is also impeccable in relation to expenses, that the sufficient one Keeping out dust and infecting spores in the case of the highly sensitive plates as well does not succeed.
It has also been suggested that drying by dehydrating substances, such as. B. concentrated sulfuric acid and the like. To effect. This comes because of the high operating costs Method considered for experimentation only, as well as the use of anhydrous alcohol and ether.
Another very expensive and cumbersome process is freezing the moisture with simultaneous heating of the photographic plates.
To enter in any short time at low temperature and exclusion of dust uniform drying of the panels
reichen, schaltet man nach vorliegender Erfindung die Luft nach Möglichkeit aus und trocknet bei einem Druck, der geringer ist als der Atmosphärendruck, also unter Vakuum.range, one switches according to the present invention the air out if possible and dries at a pressure that is lower than the atmospheric pressure, i.e. under vacuum.
The method can be designed, for example, so that the drying plates in a thick-walled housing are brought, in which the documents on which plate racks come to the installation, are designed as a radiator. The same is negligible a vacuum pump is connected to a pipeline.
The water vapor produced during drying and the Removes volatile solvents without letting fresh, dust-laden air into the drying room entry. In this way it is possible to overcome all the disadvantages of the dry types known up to now to eliminate; the whole set-up is extremely simple, the operation cheap and easy to monitor. There is no formation of dust as there is no air supply and this is possible this process also enables the solvent to be recovered. The temperature can be kept as low as desired.
The tests have shown that the best possible, especially with highly sensitive plates Results are achieved.
