Hiernach besteht der Trommeltrockner aus zwei konzentrisch ineinanderliegenden und miteinander fest verbundenen drehbaren Trommeln a, b, von denen die innere Trommel b mit einer unabhängig von dieser drehbaren Schnecke c ausgerüstet ist. In dem Mantel der inneren Trockentrommel b sind nun eine oder mehrere Entleerungsöffnungen d vorgesehen, die in die äußere Trockentrommel a münden und durch Schieber e ganz oder teilweise abgedeckt werden können. Die Entleerungsöffnungen mit den zugehörigen Absperrschiebern ermöglichen es, das Trockengut gegebenenfalls nur über einen Teil der Länge beider Trommeln hinwegzuführen, wenn beispielsweise die der Einfüllöffnung nächstliegende Entleerungsöffnung d ganz geöffnet ist, so daß einerseits das in der inneren Trockentrommel befindliche Trockengut ganz oder zum Teil nicht über das Stirnende in die äußere Trockentrommel hinausgeführt wird, sondern schon vorher durch die Entleerungsöffnungen d der inneren Trommel in die äußere Trommel fallen muß. Sind die Entleerungsöffnungen geschlossen, so vollzieht sich der Trockenvorgang in der bekannten Weise.
