Bei dem Verfahren des Patents 272337 werden Fette und Öle durch Halogen wasserst offsäuren unter direkter Bildung von Glycerinhalogenhydrinen gespalten, wobei als Nebenprodukte Oxyfettsäureester gebildet werden. Da nach dem Prinzip von Le Chatelier chemische Reaktionen, insbesondere solche, bei denen gasförmige Komponenten verbraucht werden, durch Erhöhung des Druckes beschleunigt, beziehungsweise oft überhaupt erst ermöglicht werden, wurde seinerzeit die Umsetzung zwischen den Glyceriden und den Halogenwasserstoffsäuren nur unter erhöhtem Druck ausgeführt und die Anwendung von Druck auch als kennzeichnende Maßnahme im Patentanspruch besonders hervorgehoben. Es hat sich nun überraschenderweise ergeben, daß diese Reaktion auch ohne Überdruck glatt und bei genügender Einwirkungsdauer praktisch quantitativ verläuft. Es ist auch nicht nötig, die Temperatur bei der Reaktion höher zu halten, um den fehlenden Druck dadurch zu ersetzen. Durch das Arbeiten bei normalem Druck werden wesentliche Vorteile erzielt; es wird nicht nur das Druckmittel erspart, sondern auch die Apparatur wird vereinfacht und verbilligt, und die Durchführung des Verfahrens wird absolut gefahrlos.
