The invention relates to a wire mesh such as is used in particular for fencing in large cattle. In the case of such wire grids, due to the size of the meshes, a connection of longitudinal and transverse wires cannot be achieved by braiding. One therefore had to connect the longitudinal and transverse wires in a different way and the connection was usually achieved by electrically welding the wires at the intersections. Fig. 1 and 2 show such a wire mesh of the known type. But since these fences are exposed to the weather, galvanizing or other metal protection is necessary under all circumstances. If, however, one wanted to galvanize, for example, a grid made of wires a with a circular cross-section, the zinc would form droplets, which are denoted by a 1 in FIG. 1. Experience has shown that these zinc drops cannot be removed by shaking or other mechanical treatment. Unsightly goods were thus obtained, apart from the very considerable loss of zinc. The procedure was therefore to use round wire that was galvanized from the outset. Here, however, the galvanization had to be so weak that it did not interfere with the welding process. On the other hand, however, the zinc evaporates at the welding points, and uncovered cracks accessible to the water formed, which caused the early destruction of such wire mesh, especially in a humid climate.
According to the present invention, a wire mesh is now created, which is easily in the known manner by simply pulling through a liquid zinc or other metal bath can be coated with protective metal.
Gibt man aber einem Draht einen tropfenförmigen Querschnitt, d. h. etwa eiförmig, und taucht diesen mit der spitzeren Kante nachInventor starts from the well-known fact that a metal wire, his The cut surface is immersed in a metal bath, facing downwards, when it is pulled out the cut surface has a drop that solidifies quickly. But you give the cut surface the shape of a drop, in the same case not a drop will be attached, but it becomes as even as the surface of the wire with a thin zinc layer be covered. The same phenomenon occurs when you place a metal wire horizontally immersed tensely in a metal bath; then stay on the bottom of the wire Drops hang, solidify and give the wire the appearance shown in FIG. But if you give a wire a teardrop-shaped cross-section, i. H. roughly ovoid, and dips this with the more pointed edge
There But if such a wire is asymmetrical, it is advisable to also use the upper one To make the side teardrop-shaped, d. H. to give the whole wire an oval cross-section give.
Wenn man nun ein Drahtgitter herstellt, bei welchem mindestens die Querdrähte einenIf you now make a wire mesh, in which at least the cross wires one
ίο have an oval cross-section, so you can have a such wire mesh in both directions in the one commonly used for galvanizing meshes Pull it wisely through the metal bath without even the slightest drop be attached to the wire. It is also advantageous to use wires at the same time oval cross-section as straight wires, not because of the galvanization, but only because of the similarity; in this way there are still significant additional advantages. One of these is above all that the grid has a greater strength with the same wire mass and that it can be rolled up more easily. It can do that Winding up because of the greater flexibility of the wire with a smaller diameter be started while because the oval wire is a round wire of the same cross section compared to being flatter, the roll can also be wound more densely. This is especially true for wire mesh for overseas transport of great economic importance.
Finally, the further and also very essential effect is achieved through the use of oval wires ensures that a better welding takes place because the wires are attached the crossing points have a larger contact area.
A fabric of the new type is shown in Figs. 3 and 4, with both the longitudinal wires as well as the cross wires of the grid have an oval cross-section.
