KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
DieThe invention relates to a method for the extraction of metals, metal oxides and Metal sulfides in discontinuous operations and consists in that one the crushed Ores in the form of their oxides or other reducible compounds, e.g. B. sulfates, with Coal mixed in a rotary kiln similar to that used in the Le Blank process, or round oven heated with internal heating. the
Bei den bisher bekannten kontinuierlichen Verfahren im Drehrohrofen war dies nicht möglich und doch ist dies fürίο most metal extraction processes etc. work continuously, e.g. B. the shaft furnace process, because this is the heat utilization is cheapest. However, this furnace is expensive to operate because it uses coarse coke and must use lumpy ores. Powdered ores, as often found in nature occur, one must first briquette or agglomerate, which is also associated with costs is. It has therefore already been proposed to replace the blast furnace for powdered ores with a rotary kiln, as used in the cement industry. The operation of this furnace takes place continuous, d. H. the raw material is continuously entered at one end and migrates towards the heating flame; the product obtained is continuously withdrawn at the other end. This mode of operation, although the heat is used very completely, primarily has the disadvantage that the process not completely safe in your hand because you are dependent on too many factors. In order to achieve a uniform oven cycle, the entry must be quite even take place; furthermore, the furnace and the air supply must always be constant. After all, the number of revolutions of a furnace must not change either. Because these conditions however, it is difficult to pause, the result is that the material often leaves the oven before the reaction is complete or remains in the oven for too long and gets overheated. This then has the disadvantage that in the heating zone the Ores slag slightly and the pipe gradually closes. Furthermore, it can easily happen that if the entry is not uniform, the heating to the end of the stove because the coal burned out earlier. Then burns in the front Part of the furnace re-places the reduced metal. It is also difficult to maintain a reducing atmosphere in the furnace. All these Disadvantages are avoided if one does not work continuously but discontinuously in a rotary kiln is working. _In discontinuous operations, you have the option of gradually increase the temperature. This is of great importance when you are in that The ore to be processed has different metals that are at different temperatures reduce, e.g. B. lead, iron and zinc. You can then use any metal as such or if it vaporizes and burns, gaining for itself as an oxide, without contaminating it with others will. With the previously known continuous process in the rotary kiln this was not possible and yet this is for
Dasmany ores of great importance. The practice of the present invention is very great simple and happens as follows: The crushed ore is mixed in with coal a rotary kiln, which expediently has a recess in the middle or on one side with tapping hole has entered! The rotary kiln is with a generator or connected to another heating source. That
You can regulate the air supply so that you are in the oven can maintain a reducing atmosphere. Provided, however, for a thick as possible The ore coal layer in the furnace can also be used with the more powerful, oxidizing one Heat the flame without running the risk of the reduction taking place imperfectly ; for experience has shown that if there is a thick layer inside there is a reducing layer State is maintained, although from the outside one. oxidizing flame acts. The batch is gradually heated while inverting. For a very even temperature to achieve, you can alternately introduce the heating gases from one side or the other. The more easily reducible metals are reduced first, and when they are easily liquid, such as. B. lead, collect them on the ground and can be tapped before they evaporate. The sulfates are reduced to sulfide. The temperature is gradually increased - and not constant Metals and metal oxides evaporate and may be collected separately in a receiver. Is the 'reduction and Volatilization ended ', so you can turn off the secondary air and possibly also with Generator gas further treat the batch and empty it into this gas stream or cool it if they contain reduced, easily re-oxidizing metals. Do you want avoid sintering together of the batch, so you can in a known manner excess Add coal. In order to use the heat as well as possible, you can do the usual preheat the charge or the air or the heat in some other way with the evacuating gases use. It may be advisable to connect two rotary kilns in series or • a long rotary kiln to be divided by a partition in the middle. One then works in such a way that one works in that a rotary kiln or a department allows the process to take place while the waste heat is removed fresh charge preheated in the other rotary kiln or the other department. After the process has ended, the process is reversed. It is about Reduction of sulfur ores, this can only be done in the rotary kiln in a well-known way Rust the way and then add the charcoal and reduce.
The new method has the advantage over the known that you can get any desired Can maintain the temperature in the oven so that there is little or almost no flue dust, which removes the products such as arsenic acid, cadmium oxide, lead oxide, zinc white and the like. pollutes that it requires less operation and a better and more complete one Reduction allowed, and that any fuel can be used.
