Verfahren zur Herstellung von EisenoxidschwarzpigmentenProcess for the production of iron oxide black pigments
The present invention relates to a process for the production of iron oxide black pigments (magnetite) by Reduction of iron (II) sulfates at elevated temperatures.
DP 463 773).Iron oxide black pigments are usually obtained by partial or complete precipitation of iron (II) compounds from aqueous solution using alkalis or alkaline earths with the introduction of air and subsequent heating of the suspension to temperatures above 90 ° C with precipitation of any iron (II) still present in solution. Ions produced (DP 891 310). Magnetite pigments can also be produced by precipitating iron (II) hydroxides or carbonates from iron (II) salts on any iron oxide yellow or orange (c £ - or "f-FeOOH), whereby an iron (III ) / Iron (II) ratio of 2: 1, as is the case in the ideal magnetite (Fe 3 O 4 ), is sought (DP 900 257). By reducing aromatic nitro compounds, e.g. of nitrobenzene, with metallic iron in an acidic metal salt solution, iron oxide black pigments can also be produced (e.g. DP 463 773).

The German Offenlegungsschrift 2,439,351 describes a process for the production of iron oxide black pigments from iron chlorides. The iron chloride is first converted into iron (III) oxide by thermal decomposition. In order to obtain uniform physical properties of this oxide is treated in a further process step under oxidizing, reducing or neutral conditions at temperatures above 400 0C. After these annealing processes, in a third process step the oxide is converted into the magnetite stage in a reducing process at temperatures below 550 ° C., from which a black product of pigment quality is produced by grinding.
Auch zur Herstellung von magnetisierbaren Eisenoxiden sind Verfahren bekannt, die stufenweise - ausgehend von vorzugsweise Eisen(II)-sulfat - über eine oxidierende Röstung zunächst das (^7Fe-O3 erzeugen, das dann zum Fe.,0. reduziert und gegebenenfalls zum ^j"-Fe2O3 reoxidiert werden kann (DAS 1 105 400).Processes are also known for the production of magnetizable iron oxides which, starting from preferably iron (II) sulfate, first generate the (^ 7Fe-O 3 , which is then reduced to Fe., 0. And optionally to ^ j "-Fe2O 3 can be reoxidized (DAS 1 105 400).
The aim of the present invention is to carry out the complex, multi-stage processes according to the prior art to replace a simpler process in which, in addition, iron-containing starting materials also contaminated with impurities can be used.
The present invention thus relates to a process for the production of iron oxide black pigments by thermal decomposition of iron (II) sulfate, characterized in that water of crystallization containing and /

The process according to the invention for the production of iron oxide black pigments delivers iron (II) sulfates in one by reducing water of crystallization free or containing iron (II) sulfates Process step valuable iron oxide black pigments. The iron sulfate can e.g. from steel pickling plants or from titanium dioxide production using the sulphate process, in which large amounts of iron (II) sulfate are produced as a by-product. Are "iron (II) sulfates" as raw materials from titanium dioxide production using the sulphate process If used with a relatively high proportion of magnesium sulfate, then at the relatively low reduction temperatures of less than 550 ° C. pigments with water-soluble ones are obtained Proportions of more than 0.5% by weight. A relatively high proportion of water-soluble salts of pigments is e.g. because of the associated risk of a corrosive effect on products pigmented with such products Systems undesirable. Therefore, in this case, an extension of the reduction time or a washing of the Annealing products or pre-cleaning of the starting material is necessary.
These are avoided by the method according to the invention Disadvantages in that the reduction of the iron (II) sulfates which are free or containing water of crystallization is preferred carried out at temperatures above 55O ° C.
