Die beiden Schneidemesser, mit welchen die Stirnkanten der auf dem Drehtisch eingespannten Papierstapel beschnitten werden, sind bei der Papierbeschneidemaschine nach Patent 220655 an einem gemeinsamen Messerbalken befestigt, der parallel zu dem anderen Messerbalken gelagert ist, welcher zum Beschneiden der Längskante der Stapel dient. Da der Messerbalken zur Herbeiführung eines Zugschnittes mittels schräger Schlitze, Lenker o. dgl. eine Schrägführung erhalten muß, so wird bei dem gleichzeitigen Beschneiden zweier Stapel durch die beiden an einem gemeinsamen Balken befestigten Messer die Schnittrichtung in bezug auf die eingespannten Papierstapel entgegengesetzt sein. Werden beispielsweise Bücher beschnitten, so wird bei dem einen Stapel die Schnittrichtung vom Buchrücken nach der Buchlängskante und bei dem anderen Stapel von der Buchlängskante nach dem Buchrücken gehen. Letztere Schnittrichtung ist unvorteilhaft, weil sie leicht dazu führen kann, daß die Blätter am Rücken einreißen. Zwecks Beseitigung dieses Mangels wird gemäß vorliegender Erfindung die Maschine so ausgebildet, daß die beiden in gleicher Ebene liegenden Messer von getrennten Messerbalken getragen werden, die zu gleicher Auf- und Abwärtsbewegung verbunden sind und während dieser Bewegungen in entgegengesetzter Richtung längsverschoben werden.
