Abstract

Method of purifying effluent gas e.g. smoke and other residual gases contg. SO2 where the gas is contacted with a washing liq. working in a closed cycle to which CaCO3, CaO, or Ca(OH)2 is added, to fix the SO2 and where the Ca cpd. formed is oxidised with atmospheric air to CaSO4 and sepd. from the closed cycle with the aid additives e.g. salts and/or acids which increase the removal of the Ca, is claimed in which the washing liq. is cleaned of solid particles prior to contact with teh gas. Incrustation of the washing plant with calcium carbonate is avoided while the atm. of SO2 absorbed is increased.
