Von dem bekannten Verfahren, nach welchem aus dem Extrakt der Quillajarinde durch Behandlung mit Zinkstaub und Oxalsäure oder schwefliger Säure die harzartigen und schleimigen Bestandteile abgeschieden werden, was zur Folge hat, daß die Schaumkraft der Lösung vermindert wird, unterscheidet sich das vorliegende Verfahren dadurch, daß das Mischungsverhältnis des saponinhaltigen Stoffes und der in Anwendung gebrachten Salze derart gewählt wird, daß sich bei der Auflösung in Wasser nur so geringe Mengen von schwefliger Säure ausscheiden, welche die färbenden Bestandteile des durch die Auflösung entstehenden Extraktes des saponinhaltigen Stoffes entfärben, ohne die Schaumkraft zu vermindem, und ohne daß eine Zersetzung des Saponins, auch nicht beim Erwärmen der Lösung, eintritt.
