Abstract
Description
Elo, ctriscner multiple connector The invention relates to a multiple electrical connectors in particular for use with printed circuits for making electrical connections to and / or between such circuits.
For connecting printed circuits in a wide variety Devices such as electronic computing devices, numerical control devices, Messaging systems and the like. One is already used in each case Multiple connectors having a multiplicity of contacts or connections.
Known multiple connectors, however, have the disadvantage that they have a take up a considerable amount of space, so that a low packing density the printed circuits and their associated components. The progressive Development of inexpensive miniature circuit parts such as chips etc. makes use of it of small, reliable and cheap multiple connectors are required. The miniature design enables the electrical components to be arranged more densely as well as the printed conductors, the contact surfaces and the connections of printed Circuits. Due to the dimensions and shapes of known multiple connectors however, the available area of a circuit carrier has not yet been fully utilized used or the gaps between the connections had to be excessive be reduced. In order to avoid the occurrence of short circuits, is therefore at the manufacture and assembly of the circuit arrangements and their parts an extremely great amount of care necessary. When trying the dimensions of the contact parts or reducing connections, there was an unacceptable weakening of the mechanical Connection between plug and socket contacts.
Efforts to establish a sufficiently secure mechanical and electrical connection to achieve, resulted in a more complicated and therefore more expensive construction of such Connectors, which are therefore suitable for widespread use, especially in simpler, cheap electrical devices are unsuitable.
Another disadvantage of known multiple connectors results from the fact that that a large number of different parts are required to connect the Connectors on printed circuits and circuit carriers in different positions to enable. The use of larger numbers of different parts causes however, an increase in the cost of manufacturing and storing such parts and hence for the connector as a whole.
The invention reduces or eliminates the noted deficiencies of more known ones Multiple connector and provides such a connector with socket contacts, which are each very small and weak in themselves, but which one absorbs them Cooperate connector socket so that they have a considerable spring force for get the mechanical connection with a plug contact. A multitude of such Socket contacts are arranged in at least one longitudinal row in a connector socket. The contacts and the socket are designed so that in each socket contact a plug contact can be inserted from four different directions.
Although different embodiments are shown below and is for building a complex array of printed Circuits, cables and the like. Only a single embodiment of socket and connectors required.
In the following are exemplary embodiments of the invention with reference to the drawing described. These show: Sig. 1 an oblique view of an embodiment of a Socket connector with connectors that can be connected from four different directions in natural size, FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the arrangement shown in FIG with additional representation of possible alignments of individual circuit carriers or printed circuits on the connectors and the connection of a conductor wire on a connector on an enlarged scale, FIG. 3 is an enlarged oblique view an embodiment of a socket contact element, FIG. 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional view a connector socket with an uch contact sitting therein, as shown in FIG. 3 Art, Fig. 5 is an enlarged oblique view of a socket contact in another Embodiment, FIG. 6 is an enlarged oblique view of a socket contact in FIG a third embodiment, FIG. 7 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of a Connector socket with a socket contact of the type shown in FIG. 6 inserted therein Art, Figure 8 is an enlarged perspective view of one end of a female connector socket in a first embodiment, FIG. 9 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of a Connector socket in another embodiment and FIG. 10 a greatly enlarged View of a small section from FIG. 1.
In Fig. 1 and 2 of the 2jeichnunÜ? you can see a socket socket 10 of substantially rectangular cross-section and with one for receiving one Number of socket contacts 12 measured axial length. Practical versions Such a connector, for example, has four socket contacts 12 per centimeter record axial length. The socket 10 has on its four long sides in mutual i.bstånden aligned openings, which on the axis of the socket one another meet and form passages 14, 16 that run in pairs right to one another. From both ends of the two passages 14 and 16, i.e. from all four sides the socket 10 from plug contacts 18 can be inserted so that they the axis cut the socket at right angles. Each pair of passages 14, 16 is respectively a socket contact 12 is assigned. However, since the axes of the passages intersect, is the relevant socket contact 12 at the same time in both passages, so that So you insert a plug contact into it from the four sides of the socket can.
Thanks to the extremely strong elastic properties of the socket contact 12 at the intersection of the two passages 14 and 16 can Sides of the socket 10 may be narrower than one centimeter, the distance between the surfaces or sides which run from the transverse to the socket contact Passage 16 penetrated, can be even smaller than the distance between the Pages, which of the intended for receiving the respective contact 12 passage 14 are interspersed.
The plug contacts 18 each sit in a connector socket 20, which, like the socket socket 10, is formed from insulating material. The plug socket 20 preferably has an elongated rectangular shape and can be an even smaller one Have cross-section than that Socket socket 10. With a width of The plug socket 20 has a sufficient side of about half a centimeter Strength. To ensure a secure and firm connection between the two passports 10 and 20 and-to facilitate the creation of such a connection, one of the sockets is with tenons and the other with corresponding holes 24 resp. 22 provided. The pegs and holes are preferably shaped and / or arranged so that that the plug part and the socket part are not upside down with respect to their Let the conductor connections plug together. It is common knowledge that the female and to provide plug contacts with reference numbers related to a circuit diagram, according to which the connections are then made. Is in a circuit diagram beisnielweise provided that the seated at the right end of the plug part 20 Plug contact 18 'with the socket contact 13', which is also located on the right-hand end, but not to be plugged together with the socket contact 18 "at the left end, some kind of labeling is then necessary. With famous connectors it is possible to mark the individual plug and socket contacts with the appropriate Harkieruneen to be marked. In the connector according to the invention there is such a marking however, less practical because of the small dimensions of the sockets. For this Basically, the holes 22 and pins 24, as can be seen in FIG. 1, are not the same Shape. In the embodiment shown, the holes and pegs are at the left end the fits are square and the holes and tenons at the right end are rectangular Cross-sectional shape. The tenons and holes can be different, on the left and right End each have different shapes, such as triangular or round cross-sectional shape.
The plug contacts 18 can be simple, thin and flat ieile be designed and can thereby be produced more easily than most known Plug contacts with a round cross-section and those with angled parts and / or Holding training. The safety contacts 18 shown in FIG. 2 have a widened SopQteil 28 and a pair of barbs 30, which the twisting as well prevent axial displacement of the contacts in the socket 20. The one at the back End seated connector 32 of the plug contacts is in a conventional manner, for example can be connected to a printed circuit 34 by dip soldering. With straight ones Connection parts 32 are then the printed circuit 34 perpendicular to the main part the plug contacts 18 and can then in this way both parallel and perpendicular to a circuit carrier 36 to which the socket part with its socket 10 is attached is to be arranged. If the connecting part 32 ', as shown in Fig. 2 on the right, angled, so can be connected to the plug part and the socket part printed circuits or circuit carriers 34 and 36 butted together will. As can be seen in the upper part of FIG. 2, the plug contact 32 can also direct. be connected to a single wire 38, which in turn, for example belongs to one cable, its other. Conductor on other plug contacts of the same and / or another connector part are connected. The circuit carrier 36 is penetrated by a slot 40 through which the plug contacts 18 can be introduced into the passage 16 from below. As can be seen in Fig. 1, the socket accounts 12 can alternate in opposite directions be arranged. For the socket contacts 42 there is only one connection part 42 for the electrical connection to a conductor path 44-necessary, and the contacts, can in the manner shown in Fig. 2, in which the connecting part 42 the end the left end of the passage 14 protrudes, or, as shown in Fig. 4, be inserted into the passages 14 in the opposite orientation. In this way the connecting parts 42 can thus, as shown in FIG. 1, according to the pattern of the conductor paths 44 can be arranged alternately offset from one another. From this it follows there is a greater distance between the conductor paths 44, which in turn is a very crowded arrangement of the conductor paths as a whole, without being particularly affected the connection points 46 at which the connection parts 42 passed through the l.eiterwege 44 are, the existing risk of short circuits would occur with known connectors.
The socket contact 12 shown in a GrunclSorm in FIG. 3 can be stamped from a thin sheet metal and has one of the cross-sectional shape of the passages 14 adapted gutter profile. The bottom 48 of the channel profile is centered on one arranged opening 50 penetrated, which has rather large dimensions and through which a plug contact 18 along the passage 16, that is perpendicular to the axis of the socket contact 12 can be introduced. The gutter profile has two straight lines and side walls 52 extending parallel to one another, each with an inwardly protruding one Contact knob 54 at the level of the intersection of the passages 14 and 16 (FIG. 4).
A plug contact inserted from any of the four possible directions 18 therefore penetrates between the two knobs 54, which is a safe mechanical and electrical connection results.
The side walls 52 connected to one another via the base 48 have to each other at such a distance that a plug contact 18 is effortlessly between them can introduce, but pushes the walls apart when penetrating between the contact knobs 54. The passages 14 and 16 are at least in the area of the contact studs 54 so wide that the center pieces of the side walls 52 can be pushed apart a little, but not wide enough to cause permanent impact deformation of the side walls 52 would be possible because then the resilient connection between the socket and Plug contact not allowed. Through certain further training the resilient connection between c1en Wontc: r, en improve even further. As m8n in FIGS. 3 and 4 recognizes, the side walls 52 have protruding above at their ends Surveys 56, 58. The surveys, at least because of their counterparts, do the rest of the side wall of greater height provides resistance to outward bending the side walls and thus increase their elasticity to a considerable extent. On the other hand, I would have the entire wall 52 continuously the same height as the elevations 56 and 58, see above it would also offer increased resistance to the outward bend, but it would require it tend to permanent deformation, i.e. lose their elastic properties. Because a fourth wall on the top of the socket contact 12 is omitted and the substantial size of the opening 50 formed in the bottom 48 are the side fenders 52 only held in the area of the ends, which makes their flexibility without permanent Deformation increased, so their resilient properties improved.
There is always some difficulty with such miniature parts to bring them into proper alignment with other parts and to be fixed in the relevant position. Since the contact knobs on the passage 16 must be aligned, certain training for aligning the contacts and necessary for securing them in the aligned position. In execution according to Fig. 4, the alignment and attachment is carried out by the interaction of the Connection part 42 with the elevation 56 and a stop step 60 in the passage 14. Level 60 prevents a deeper penetration of the protrusion 56 into the passage 14 via a position in which the contact pins 54- lie at the intersection with the passage 16. The socket contact is in a backward movement 12 prevented by the downwardly folded connector 42.
The arrangement shown in Fig. 3 and 4 from the socket 10 and a socket contact 12 has some limitation in that the contact 12 only from one side and not, as shown in FIG. 1, from both sides can be introduced into the passage 14 of the socket 10. This limitation is at the bucket contact 12 according to FIG. 5 and the interacting therewith shown in FIG Version 10 fixed. In this contact 12, the elevation 56 is omitted, and the socket has a widened one next to both ends of the passage 14 Part of the same delimiting, outward-facing step 60 to which the inner edge the survey 58 can be applied. The two stages 60 are symmetrical to one another Passage 14 is formed so that you can get the socket contact 12 from both sides can slide into the socket 10.
The socket contact 12 shown in FIG. 5 has two further improvements on. Near the front end in the direction of insertion, the side walls 52 have outwards protruding beads 62 which are supported on the side walls of the passage and resist or limit the outward deflection of the walls 52. The beads 62 thus meet the requirements of the elevations 56 according to the embodiment Fig. 3. When the beads protrude far enough that they can be removed from the insertion a plug connector 18 to rest against the side walls of the passage results this results in better centering of the side walls 52 of the contact 12, in particular in relation to the passage 16 running at right angles to it the contact 12 shown in Fig. 5 has a punched out of the bottom 48 and Retaining tongue 64 bent slightly downwards. As can be seen in FIG. 2, the passage has 14 at its bottom in the area of the two ends 'each have a recess 66, 66r', in one of which the retaining tongue 64 engages, around the contact 12 independent of the connecting part 42 secure in its position in the passage. This is advantageous in that otherwise when inserting and removing the plug contacts an excessive great stress could be exerted on the connector 42, so that the danger would be to loosen its connection with the conductive path 44.
A socket contact 12 shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 is for the soldered connection with a conductor wire like a cable instead of for direct connection to one Circuit carrier formed. The socket contact 12 has instead of the connector 42 a channel-shaped extension 68 for inserting a conductor wire 70 and fixing it of the same by means of solder 72.- One of the channel-shaped extension 68 at the inner end delimiting wall 74 prevents the penetration of the solder into the for receiving the Plug contact 18 specific area. One punched from the bottom of extension 68 Tongue 76 is bent downwards after the contact 12 has been pushed into the passage 14, so that, as can be seen in FIG. 7, at the end of the passage 14 in contact with the Side surface of the socket 10 comes to a shift of the contact 12 to the right in Fig. 7 to prevent. The tongue 76 thus fulfills the same task as that Tongues 64 in the embodiment according to FIG. 5. The passage 16 of the one shown in FIG Version 10 has an extension 80 at each of the two entry ends, which the insertion of a plug contact facilitates.
In Figs. 8, 9 and 10 details of the socket socket 10 are shown. In the embodiment according to FIGS. 8 and 10 there are 58 slots for receiving the elevations 82, 82 'are provided, the inner delimitation of which is formed by the steps 60 and 60', respectively is. Slots 82 and & 2 'are opposite the side walls of the passage 14 offset inwards. In this way, the side walls 52 are the socket contact aligned and fixed in such a way that they are indeed in the area of the contact knobs 54 can bend outwards; a noticeable outward curve in the area in which the bumps 58 sit in the slots 82, however, is not possible. By the The interaction of the slots 82 with the elevations 58 is therefore that of the socket contact 12 on a plug connector 18 introduced therein holding force is considerable reinforced. The slots 82 'receive the bumps 58 when the contact 12 of he other side, so with the connector 42 or the extension 68 to Viewer of Fig. 8 is used.
In the lower edge, the socket 10 has one in the area of the passage 14 Incision 84 for receiving connector 42 so that it is securely aligned and is protected against lateral bending.
The slots 82 can in all illustrated embodiments of the Socket socket 10 be present and with the socket contacts 12 in the various A guide forms cooperate with the exception of those shown in FIG. In the in Fig. 9 shown embodiment of the socket socket 10 is the support of the elevations 56 and / or 58 achieved in that the entry areas 86 are narrower than the middle part 88 of the passage 14. Thanks to this training WEE, the Socket contact sidewalls 52 - i2 flex outward while at the ends of the socket contact 12 in the area of the surveys 56 unc1./or 53 there is no rsum for it.
In Fig. 9 erkennt mcm außerdem die im Vergleich zur Querschnittsgröße des Durchlasses 16 ziemlich großen Abmessungen der Öffnung 50 im Boden p8 des Kontakts 12.In FIG. 9, mcm also recognizes the compared to the cross-sectional size of the passage 16 of fairly large dimensions of the opening 50 in the bottom p8 of the contact 12th
Thanks to the large dimensions of the opening 50 are. the side walls over not connected to one another by a large distance via the floor 48 and thus act than springs clamped at both ends, causing them to move into the socket contact Introduced plug contact provides the greatest possible holding force for such small metal parts can exercise on a small contact area.
The invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiments but extends to numerous changes and modifications thereof.
