Gypsum compsn. contg. alpha-and/or beta-gypsum hemihydrate an alkaline additive (pref. slaked white lime) and opt. a liquefying agent (reducing the amt. of water to be added) and/or a setting retardant and/or a finely comminuted filler is improved by adding the alkaline additive in such an amt. that the pH of the compsn.(after the addn. of water) is >=9. This compsn. is used for structural purposes as a load-bearing flooring on concrete, natural or synthetic stones, wood or bituminous board. The matl. has high compressive strength and firmly adheres to the substrate. It hardens rapidly.
