Verfahren zur Gewinnung von reinem Naphthalin "bzw. von dessen reinen HomologenProcess for the production of pure naphthalene "or from its pure homologues
The invention "relates to a method of extraction of pure naphthalene "or its pure homologues by treating a high percentage dephenolated naphthalene product or a high percentage dephenolated homologue enrichment with an acid of sulfur and formaldehyde "at elevated temperature.
One such method is "already" known (see. DT-PS 1259317) · After this "known method, a high-proof entphenoliertes naphthalene product in the first stage" at 95 to 100 0 C and 2 to 7 vol .-% 78 and 98 % sulfuric acid and then, without peeling off the acid layer, treated in the second stage at the same temperature with aqueous formaldehyde solution. After removing the sulfuric acid layer and washing the organic phase neutral, the pure naphthalene is obtained by distillation. With this treatment, the naphthalene companions - thionaphthene and indene - are practically completely removed. However, this results in losses in yield due to the formation of naphthalenesulfonic acids, and it is necessary to purify the waste water from sulfonic acids and to work up the acid resins formed.

The object of the invention is therefore to provide a method for obtaining of pure naphthalene or its pure homologues by treating a high percentage dephenolated naphthatin product "or a high-percentage dephenolated homologue enrichment with an acid of sulfur and formaldehyde to be provided at an elevated temperature at which the disadvantages described above do not occur.
The object of the invention is achieved by adding 1 to 3% by weight of alkane, benzene or alkylbenzene sulfonic acid (based on the starting material) to the naphthalene product or the homologue enrichment at 95 to 105 ° C. with stirring allowed to settle -, increases Semperatur at 130 to 160 0 C, · to the mixture in several portions of 1 to 3 wt .- $ paraformaldehyde (calculated on feed) added gives, after a reaction time of 2 to 4 hours - and, if appropriate after addition of water , removes the deposited sulfonic acid (if necessary, repeats the treatment with alkane, benzene or alkylbenzene sulfonic acid and paraformaldehyde and removes the deposited sulfonic acid again), subjects the remaining reaction mixture to an alkali wash and separates the pure naphthalene or its pure homologues from it by distillation. According to another embodiment of the invention provides after the sulfonic acid addition, the temperature at 50 "to 100 0 C and takes place of the paraformaldehyde addition of a discharge of gaseous formaldehyde before.
In contrast to sulfuric acid, the sulfonic acids have, as has been found, no sulfonating or oxidizing effect whatsoever on naphthalene or its homologues.
Bei erfindungsgemäßem Vorgehen werden nicht nur die oben geschilderten Nachteile des bekannten Verfahrens vermieten, sondern die als Katalysator erfindungsgemäß verblendeten Sulfonsäuren können nach Reinigung sogar wiederverwendet v/erdenIn the procedure according to the invention, not only those described above are used The disadvantages of the known method rent out, but rather the sulfonic acids veneered as a catalyst according to the invention can even be reused after cleaning

Proceeding according to the invention, a pure naphthalene is obtained with a solidification point (EP) of 79.8 0 C, a good Schliefelsäurereaktion and determined by gas chromatography Thionaphthengehalt of 0.1% corresp. A sulfur content of about 500 ppm. If the inventive treatment of naphthalene sulfonic acid and paraformaldehyde applied twice, the result is a pure naphthalene hydrogenation quality of having a solidification point of 80.0 0 C and a sulfur content below 10 ppm.
In a modified embodiment of the invention, the naphthalene product at 100 to 140 0 C, preferably 100 to 105 0 C, with 1 to 5 wt .-% paraformaldehyde or gaseous formaldehyde and with 1 to 3 wt .-% alkane, benzene or alkylbenzene-sulfonic acid in a closed apparatus under the light building up self-pressure of about 0.2 to 2 atmospheres gauge 8 to 14 hours treated so obtained - after a single pass with a pure naphthalene EP 0 C 80.0 to 80.1 and a sulfur content below 10 ppm. Equally favorable results are obtained if this process variant is applied to homolog enrichment. A particular advantage of the process variant is - apart from environmental protection - the possibility of carrying out the work-up continuously. Reaction, extraction of the catalyst with water and neutralization with 15% sodium hydroxide solution can easily be carried out continuously without temperature adjustment.
