"Schutzanordnung gegen den schädlichen Bewuchs von durch Schutzmittel gegen Korrosion geschützten Unterwasser-Stahlbauteilen" "Protective arrangement against the harmful growth of underwater steel components protected against corrosion by protective agents"

The invention relates to a protective arrangement against the harmful growth of those protected against corrosion by protective means Underwater steel components.

It is well known that structures located under water, in particular in sea water, are swept away by algae, barnacles, Overgrown on mussels and the like. In some cases this can also destroy anti-rust coatings, which results in considerable corrosion damage to steel components.

Apart from this, the vegetation can also impair the function of the steel structures, e.g. by raising them the driving resistance of ships.

To prevent such fouling and the damage associated therewith, it has long been known to use protective coatings to apply to the underwater steel components that contain so-called antifouling materials. These include for example copper and mercury salts or organic hydrocarbon compounds. Their effect is based on the fact that they are gradually dissolved out of the protective coating by the water. However, their protective effect does not last very long, so that - often after about half a year - the growth begins again. The paint, which is also the corrosion protection the steel components are to be used, must then be renewed, for which the components in question are generally lifted out of the water have to become, which is associated with a high expenditure of costs and time.

It is also known to provide steel pipes and structures with a relatively thick-walled casing made of thermoplastic material, such as PVC or polyethylene, for corrosion protection. When components coated in this way are used in seawater, however, it has been shown that their surface is also overgrown by barnacles, mussels and the like. It would be possible to store the toxic substances that prevent fouling in the plastic. Through its dissolution, however, the plastic coating would be porous, causing its otherwise reli T would be destroyed permeable corrosion protection.

The invention has set itself the task of providing long-term protection for underwater steel components at the same time against corrosion and fouling, with which it is possible that a renewal the anti-fouling must only be carried out after a period of several years, without this being necessary is to lift the parts out of the sea water, dry them and repaint them.

Gelöst wird diese Aufgabe erfindungsgemäß dadurch, daß auf eineThis object is achieved according to the invention in that on a

die Oberfläche des Stahlbauteiles bedeckende elektrisch isolierende Schicht ein das Stahlbauteil ganz oder Teile desselben umschließendes metallisches Bewuchsschutzmittel angeordnet ist.the surface of the steel component covering electrically insulating Layer a metallic antifouling agent which completely or parts of the steel component is arranged.

It is further proposed with the invention that the electrically insulating layer be made of an organic plastic such as polyethylene and the metallic antifouling agent made of copper or a copper alloy in the form of a wire, one Tape, foil, net, paint or sprayed on Powder.

For the protection against corrosion, a sheathing is mainly made a thermoplastic material, especially made of polyethylene, is recommended for steel pipes in a known manner by extrusion is produced in the form of a thick-walled tube. For other steel structures can be done by spraying or filling thick layers, especially of tar pitch / epoxy resin or tar pitch / polyurethane compounds, are applied to them. Here Solvent-free tar pitch / epoxy resin is the better chemical To give preference to resistance because of the greater hardness. These cladding layers are used when metallic ones are used Copper as an anti-fouling agent at the same time as an insulation against local element formation.

The inventive method thus creates a protection system that consists of an organic corrosion protection agent and a separate metallic antifouling agent.
