Abstract

Nitrogen-fixing blue algae, such as Anabaena or Nostoc are cultivated in fresh water or its mixts with sea water, opt. with addn of trace elements, esp. salts of Fe, Mn and Mo. The blue algae can be used for prepn of human or animal food. Since the blue algae assimilate nitrogen from air, there is no need to introduce into the cultivation medium nitrates or ammonium salts (as in the case of green algae cultivation); only cpds of other nutrient elements, such as P,S,Na,K,Ca,Mg,etc. and trace elements have to be supplied, and only in reduced quantities if sea water is used, as it contains considerable amts of nutritives. Thus, the costs are considerably reduced, esp if blue algae cultivation is carried out near sea-coast.

So werden schon seit längerem Massenzuchtversuche mit verschiedenen Grünalgen (z.B. Scenedesmus- und Chloreiia-Arxen) gemacht. Diese Verfahren haben aber den Wachteil, daß die zum. Wachstum der Algen nötigen Elemente (N, S, P, Ha, K, Oa, Mg u.a.m. ) in Form von Mineralsalzen zur Nährlösung zugesetzt werden müssen, was die Massenzucht der Algen wesentlich verteuert. Ein besonderer Nachteil ist hierbei, daß die Grünalgen zum Erreichen optimalen Wachstums größere Mengen an Stickstoffverbindungen wie z.B. Der Zusatz von Eisen-, Mangan- und Molybdänsalzen empfiehlt sich, weil diese das Wachstum der Algen besonders fördern.
