Bekanntlich geschieht die Aufarbeitung der viel freies Ätzalkali enthaltenden Indoxylschmelzen, wie sie aus Phenylglycin, dessen Derivaten, Homologen und Analogen nach den verschiedenen Verfahren durch Verschmelzen z. B. mit Alkalihydraten oder Alkalihydratgemischen und Natriumamid oder Natrium (vgl. z. B. die Patentschriften 137955, 141749 usw.) erhalten werden, in der Weise, daß man die Schmelzen in Wasser löst und den Indigo mit Luft ausbläst, wobei das gesamte Alkalihydrat in Lösung geht. Wollte man dagegen aus den Schmelzen das Indoxyl als solches abscheiden, so mußte man das gesamte überschüssige und außerdem das an Indoxyl gebundene Alkalihydrat der wäßrigen Lösung der Indoxylalkalischmelzen mit Säuren abstumpfen, um das Indoxyl als solches zur Ausfällung zu bringen. Damit war das gesamte Alkali verloren gegeben. Außerdem tritt bei der Abscheidung eine teilweise Zersetzung des in freiem Zustande wenig beständigen Indoxyls ein. Eine Abscheidung des Indoxyls in irgendeiner Form hat aber für die Technik großen Wert: So besonders zwecks Überführung des Indoxyls in Indigo unter Zusatz von Körpern, welche dem ausgefällten Indigo "eine andere physikalische Beschaffenheit geben, wie z. B. anorganische, in Alkalihydrat ganz oder teilweise lösliche Verdünnungsmittel oder z.
