Abstract
Description
Method for stripping screen printing stencils The invention relates to a method for decoating screen printing stencils by treatment with an oxidizing agent.
üblicherweise tragen Siebdruckschablonen auf einem Gewebe von Metall-, Polyäthylen-, Nylon- und anderen Kunstfasern oder einer perforierten Metallfolie eine Schicht, die durch teil- oder vollverseiften Polyvinylalkohol, gegebenenfalls auch Methylcellulose, Carboxymethylcellulose, Alginate und ähnliche polymere Stoffe gebildet wird.usually wear screen printing stencils on a fabric of metal, Polyethylene, nylon and other synthetic fibers or a perforated metal foil a layer replaced by partially or fully saponified polyvinyl alcohol, if appropriate also methyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, alginates and similar polymeric substances is formed.
The oxidizing agents used to date for decoating are not satisfactory. Oxidizing acids, especially those with a higher acidity, are suitable Not for this purpose because they contain many metals and hydrolyzable plastics attack like nylon. Other oxidizing agents, however, turn out to be modern ones Stencil coatings as not or not sufficiently effective. Potassium permanganate for example has too little activity and moreover leads to the formation of Brownstone, which has to be removed from the stencil support with acid. Hypochlorites have an unpleasant smell and are particularly corrosive to the mucous membranes and screens made of V2A steel, for example, corrode.
The object of the invention is to provide a method for removing the coating from screen printing stencils by treatment with an oxidizing agent, this can be found quickly and reliably a complete removal of the layer former allows, however, without the carrier to attack the screen printing stencil.
It has now surprisingly been found that aqueous solutions of sodium meta-periodate (NaJO4) on the coatings of screen printing stencils have a very quick dissolving effect without being aggressive towards the carrier material.
The compound mentioned proves to be particularly active in the case of polyvinyl alcohol layers.
The invention is therefore characterized in that for decoating from screen printing stencils a 0.5 - 9% aqueous solution of sodium meta-periodate is used.
A 3-6% solution is preferred. Below that concentration the effectiveness of the stripping agent decreases significantly, while economical Considerations speak against a substantial increase over the stated range. Solutions higher than 9% are not in water at normal temperature available. For economic reasons you will strive for a 3% solution, the one Has a pH of approx. 4.5. The solution is kept at room temperature as soon as possible, however, sodium periodate solutions can also be safely used at elevated temperatures handle; rapid heating to 500c and above can result in decomposition.
A particular advantage of the method according to the invention is therein to see that thanks to the rapid action and high activity of the applied sodium periodate solution not only a complete stripping of the stencils is possible, but also a partial or locally limited removal of the layers in certain places the stencil.
The use of a sodium metaperiodate solution has proven particularly effective, which are given a pasty consistency by adding an inert thickener Has. This makes the application of the stripping agent as well as his even distribution on the stencil favors.
Inert thickeners are those substances that are which are neither attacked by the sodium rneta periodate nor its activity affect the stencil coating. Silicic acid is preferred Airgel.
The invention is described below using an exemplary embodiment described in more detail.
A screen printing stencil has a polyvinyl alcohol film on a nylon fabric of 15 p thickness. To decoat it is at room temperature with a 3% Solution of atriumeta-periodate treated by adding a small amount of commercial silica airgel is thickened. The decoating agent leaves can be applied just as easily over the entire surface as it is locally limited. The solving process is completed within 10 to 30 seconds. One-sided coating is sufficient of the sieve and spraying with a hand shower and cold water, if necessary under increased pressure. For films that are reinforced with synthetic resin dispersions, a slightly longer exposure time may be required. It is also recommended for stripping very heavy-duty, i.e. more strongly hardened films that Use of higher treatment temperatures.
