Die Erfindung geht von der Feststellung aus, daß die Buchstaben der gebräuchlichen europäischen Schriften eine große Zahl gemeinsamer Formteile besitzen, so daß sich alle Buchstaben auf einige wenige Grundformen zurückführen lassen. In der Zeichnung ist an einigen Beispielen die Herstellung von Buchstaben oder Monogrammen aus vorgegliederten Grundformen veranschaulicht. Durch Abtrennen, etwa Absägen des unteren oder des oberen Balkens aus der in Fig. 1 gezeigten Grundform, wird z. B. das in Fig. 3 abgebildete Monogramm I. O. bzw. der russische Buchstabe F erhalten.
