Demgemäß können auch die Katalysatorbetten einen rechteckigen Mantel aufweisen, der von einem zylindrischen, elliptischen oder dgl. Gehäuse umgeben ist. In weiterer zweckmäßiger Ausgestaltung der Erfindung kann das Katalysatorbett aus vier dicht nebeneinander liegenden zylindrischen oder elliptischen Mänteln bestellen, die unmittelbar von einem gemeinsamen rechteckigen Gehäuse umgeben sind. Dieses Gehäuse 3 geht einerseits in einen Abgaszuführungsstutzen 6 und 'andererseits in einen Schalldämpfer 7 über. Diesen Schalldämpfer 7 durchdringt eine Sammelleitung 8, die mit Anschlußrohren 9, 10, und 12 an die Ausgänge 13 der zylindrischen Mäntel 4 der Katalysatorbetten angeschlossen ist. Der Schalldämpfer 7 ist gegenüber dem übrigen Gehäuse 3 durch eine Trennwand l4 getrennt.
