Zusatz - Patent zu No. 19210 vom 6. December 1881.Addition - Patent to No. 19210 of December 6, 1881.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 16. Juni 188a ab. Längste Dauer: 5. December 1896.Patented in the German Empire on June 16, 188a. Longest duration: December 5, 1896.
In the process of cleaning and preparation set out under A 2. of the main patent specification the colors for mineral painting are improved by the fact that the colors, according to their special properties, besides the additives mentioned in the main patents, fluent pathway, zinc oxide, marble and Glass powder, manganese dioxide and carbonate of barite can be added. In this way gain on the one hand certain colors of power and depth, on the other hand the mass of the picture surface considerably harder than hitherto, and the third and fourth fixing of the picture can be done with application of these additions, if the worker has acquired sufficient dexterity and practice, yes can be done with a brush, in that the colors bind much earlier and more evenly as before. The use of marble and glass powder, zinc oxide, carbonate of barite and Brownstone (the latter especially with black, which is less tolerant of lighter aggregates) is based on the extraordinary ability to bind and toughness, which these bodies, without having a particularly strong opacity and the power of Affect colors, the silicic acid alkali against external resp. achieve with the same. But it is the river path which gives the deeper colors a certain degree after fixation Gives satiety. In particular, • show the colors, in contrast to the only with Silica, alumina and bitter earth hydrate ver

II. Although one for the production of easel pictures with the painting ground for mineral painting provided canvas deserves for various special purposes which prepared as follows the advantage that it can also be rolled without becoming brittle will.
The canvas of any thickness is treated once with a solution of sulfuric acid Magnesia, Aetzbaryt, water glass solution and silicofluoric acid soaked and on it with a painting ground consisting of carbonate of barite, pulverized carrara marble and Potash water glass, provided. The painting is then given, as in the main patent, carried out, fixed and then washed with carbonate of ammonia. For certain cases, if If the artist considers it desirable or necessary, such paintings can be painted with oil to be further completed, possibly oil paintings can be underscored in this way. The finished painting can, if you want it shiny, with an appropriate firnif be coated.
Die vorstehend angegebene Behandlung bezw. die angewendeten Stoffe bieten nun den weiteren grofsen Vortheil, dafs sie die damit präparirteThe above treatment BEZW. the substances used now offer the other great advantage that she prepared them with it

Canvas with a slight change in the method of application also flame-proof without affecting the purity of the colors, and in such a way that the canvas can easily be rolled remain. For this purpose it is first treated with a solution of magnesia sulfuric acid (5 kg of the the latter to 30 l of water) soaked well and, after having dried again, with a solution saturated with carbonate. The canvas, which has now dried again, is continued with a Solution of potassium water glass (1 1 water glass to 2 1 distilled or rain water) soaked, and then a painting ground is made of 1 part of carbonate of barite, 6 parts of which is pulverized Carrara marble and 10 parts of potash water glass (1 part of water glass with 1 part Water diluted) evenly applied and rubbed in. Should the painting surface after drying Dust off a little more, then pass it over again with a potassium water glass solution in the Strength as first applied. Finally the re-dried canvas is washed again with dilute hydrofluoric acid (1 part acid to 2 parts water) impregnated resp. neutralized. To speed up the After drying, the canvas can be smoothed with heated iron rollers.
■This treatment results in a canvas that is extremely difficult to ignite is and under no circumstances passes on an ignition flame, but only charred. The screen does not dust, it can be rolled easily, as with theater decorations, without to become brittle, and can be used with anything in glue, tempera or mineral painting Colors are painted without the colors even being imbued with the impregnation materials suffer the slightest change in nuance. The otherwise required painting surface is saved. That Paint on the ground consisting of purely mineral, absolutely non-flammable substances is comfortable and light; the colors sit well, appear brilliant and clear and show a pleasant one Luster, neither on the canvas nor on the picture surface shows any weathering. ■
The substances produced in the canvas by this procedure are formed by repeated double precipitation under the action of the barite water on the sulfuric acid magnesia, on and in the Fiber, a precipitate of sulphate of barite and hydrate of magnesia, which then is the latter forms a magnesia silicate with the water glass. By the action of the silicofluoric acid on the water glass forms with the precipitation of silica with the potassium Water glass, potassium silicate, which is extremely sparingly soluble in water and none able to exert a destructive effect on the colors.
The impregnation compound finally shows neither acid nor alkaline reaction, so that there is no detrimental effect either on the paint or on the canvas. at These products, which are indestructible and indestructible by fire, do not express any fire damage harmful effect due to toxic gases or vapors and do not generate smoke.
