PATENTAMTPATENT OFFICE
von schwefelsaurem Ammoniak.from sulfuric acid ammonia.
In most gas stations, the luminous gas is made up of the ammonia compounds it contains only incompletely liberated, because one has hitherto been cleansed besides washing almost without exception used lime and iron oxide. An attempt to use sulfuric acid for cleaning of the gas, which is used in the manufacture in the form of sawdust soaked in it introduced has been abandoned because the sulfuric acid formed in the sawdust Ammonia was too rich in humic and tarry substances and rhodan compounds. Also the use of the superphosphate to absorb the ammonia from the Luminous gases, as it has recently been proposed, suffers from the disadvantage that this results in them valuable water-soluble phosphoric acid lime in insoluble, insoluble, precipitated phosphoric acid Lime is transformed, as well as the fact that the rhodanammonium absorbed by the superphosphate from it without any further reduction in value of the phosphate cannot be removed.
We have avoided both inconveniences by using mineral substances, which Soak up sulfuric acid and at the same time, without being decomposed, a low annealing temperature endure.
As such, we used infusoric soil and also fly ash; but they are likely to be found other mineral substances (infusor earth takes 150 pCt. sulfuric acid without losing the required loose quality), which are useful for our purposes are.
The mineral substance soaked with sulfuric acid is used to absorb ammonia from the gases spread on gas cords. These are placed before or after the Sulfur with iron ore or the like charged hordes switched on and remain in the cleaning equipment until the sulfuric acid is almost saturated.
The substance is then exchanged and, if it contains rhodan, in a closed, - With a deduction for the evolved gases, iron vessel or furnace of a mild one Exposed to glowing heat. This escapes, if rhodan compounds and also a a slight excess of sulfuric acid are present, hydrothodic acid and the mineral products char. When the mass is leached out and the lye is evaporated, a very pure and beautiful sulfuric acid ammonia is obtained; however, under certain circumstances, the undrained mass can also be used for the manufacture of fertilizer if there is no rhodan content. The luminosity of the gas will be like this experience has taught, is not affected by the cleaning method described above.
