Description
The invention relates to a method of manufacture of split fibers with latent crimp, in which a film made of polymer plastic over the Cross-section is modified differently and then frayed.
^ Processes of this type, in which foils are heated on one side and pulled off using a tool, as a result of which a latent curling ability is produced in the foils 4S , are known from GB-PS 12 33 940 and 33 566 and DD-PS 81 424. This one-sided treatment changes the crystallinity in the film across the cross-section. However, these methods are relatively expensive in terms of oparation. ^
Furthermore, a method is known from CH-PS 4 71 915 in which filaments with a transverse to Filament axis-directed high-energy radiation is treated to bring in a latent crimp ability to evoke them. A disadvantage of this method is that the laser beam evoked uniform heat effect on the filaments only generates a temperature gradient.
The invention is based on the object of a simple method for producing split fibers to create with latent puckering from a foil.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that the film is exposed to high-energy radiation and treated during or after the irradiation in such a way that a degree of crosslinking, degradation or grafting that differs over the film cut b5 is achieved.
Vorteilhaft ist es, einaxial verstreckte Folien zuIt is advantageous to use uniaxially stretched films
I).A film 1 made of polyethylene, uniaxially stretched in the direction of passage, is passed through a vacuum lock 2 into the vacuum chamber 5 connected to the scanner 3 of an electron accelerator 4 and irradiated there with electrons 6 the film absorbs a dose of 3 x 10 7 rads. The energy of the electrons 6 is chosen so that the maximum range of the electrons 6 in polyethylene corresponds to exactly half the thickness of the film 1. Due to this special type of radiation, the polyethylene film is only crosslinked on the side facing the scanner 3. After exiting a second vacuum lock 7, the film 1 arrives in a splitting device 8, in which the film I is separated into individual fibers. In the yarn forming device 9, a yarn is formed from the individual fibers, which yarn is exposed in the shrinking chamber 10 to the action of hot air. This is where the radiation-chemically crosslinked films or Fiber parts different from the untreated, which leads to a texturing of the fibers. The textured yarn II is finally wound onto the bobbin 12 (FIG. I).
A polyethylene film I stretched uniaxially in the direction of passage is produced in the same way as in Example 1 irradiated. After the irradiation, those formed in the film I by the irradiation and not yet recombined free radicals to initiate graft copolymerization of acrylic acid in the grafting vessel 13 used.
Die übrigen Verfahrensschritte entsprechen denen imThe other process steps correspond to those in
Beispiel 1. The textured fibers produced by this procedure have the particular advantage that they can be stained locally well due to the grafted acrylic acid, which creates special color effects can be achieved (Fig. 2).
Eine in Dtirchlaufrichtung einaxial gereckte Folie 1 aus Polyäthylen wird unter dem Scanner 3 eines Elektronenbeschleunigers 4 vorbeigeführt und in Luft mit Elektronen 6 bestrahltA film 1 stretched uniaxially in the direction of travel made of polyethylene is passed under the scanner 3 of an electron accelerator 4 and in air irradiated with electrons 6
Die Durchlaufgeschwindigkeit der Folie 1 und der Strahlstrom des Elektronenbeschleunigers 4 werden soThe passing speed of the sheet 1 and the beam current of the electron accelerator 4 become so
Die übrigen Verfahrensschritte entsprechen denen im Beispiel 1 (F i g. 3).coordinated that the film 1 has a dose of 2-10? rad absorbed In contrast to Examples 1 and 2, the electron energy is selected here so high that the film 1 is irradiated approximately homogeneously. One different modification over the cross section results from the fact that the film I before, during and after the irradiation from below with a cooling gas stream 14 and from above with a hot gas stream 15 is blown, whereby by the irradiation on the side of the film 1 facing the scanner 3 a a different structure is formed than on the one facing away from the scanner 3. The remaining procedural steps correspond to those in Example 1 (FIG. 3).
