For many trades it is important to accurately measure the alcohol content of liquids while taking them to be able to determine in a simple way. The methods used so far are either, like spindles, not generally applicable or they deliver like the provision by means of of the ebullioscope and the vaporimeter, inaccurate results, so that one becomes cumbersome and time-consuming distillation method had to resort to. That is the subject of the invention Formative process, on the other hand, is useful for all fermentation trades, because of the special nature of the test Liquid (mash, brandy, beer, wine, etc.) without affecting the accuracy of the Result remains.
.. This procedure is based on the following phenomena: Becomes a liquid containing alcohol mixed with ether, so after shaking, two layers separate from which the lower consists essentially of water, while the upper is formed by ether that has absorbed most of the alcohol in the sample. Puts you now add pure alcohol, mix thoroughly and leave the watery layer of again the alcoholic-ethereal part, one notices that the latter has decreased in height and if one continues with the addition of alcohol, the level of separation moves of the two layers higher and higher, until finally by adding a drop of pure alcohol the alcoholic - ethereal layer disappears completely and a homogeneous liquid arises. From the amount of alcohol to be added until this point is reached indicates the alcohol content of the sample. .
In the practical application of the procedure based on these phenomena one works with certain, always constant amounts of the alcohol-containing Liquids, add a predetermined, measured amount of ether to them, and uses a measuring vessel for the gradual addition of pure alcohol, the division of which is immediate read the percentage of alcohol in the sample.
Der Stand, den der Alkohol 20 cm 3 of the sample are placed in a shaking vessel of the appropriate volume and mixed with 10 cm 3 of ether with a specific gravity of 0.724, whereupon it is shaken vigorously. When standing still, a mainly watery layer separates from an overlying ethereal-alcoholic layer. Now you bet from one. 98 percent alcohol is added in portions to the burette, divided in the manner indicated above, and shakes after each addition. Here one observes - especially if the shaking vessel has a correspondingly narrow, long neck - that the plane of separation, since the watery layer becomes more and more alcoholic and consequently more and more ether dissolves, moves higher and higher due to the decrease in the ether-alcoholic layer, until it finally disappears completely with the addition of a drop of alcohol. The booth that the alcohol
in diesem Zeitpunkt in der Bürette einnimmt, wird abgelesen und gibt unmittelbar den Prozentgehalt der Probe an Alkohol an.takes in the burette at this point, is read off and immediately gives the percentage the sample of alcohol.
