Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 26. Februar 1908 ab.Patented in the German Empire on February 26, 1908.
Das Magnesium wirkt hierbei noch weit besser wie das Aluminium, und diese raffinierende Wirkung des MagnesiumsWhen used in the manufacture of iron or steel castings, magnesium causes a extraordinary improvement of this cast, makes it tight and bubble-free, gives it a feel homogeneous structure and thus increases the physical properties of the casting by one considerable. The magnesium works much better than the aluminum, and this refining effect of magnesium
Been the subject of patents. However, the magnesium has not yet been It can be used as a deoxidizer in the iron and steel industry Addition to iron or steel casting is extremely difficult. At; the supply of Magnesium to molten iron or steel causes an extraordinarily violent reaction which causes all of the molten metal to explode out of the Container is spun. The supply of magnesium in iron or steel melts the way in which aluminum is used is unsuitable for practical use as a result of this phenomenon. The German patent specification 86807 proposes alloys of aluminum or of alkaline earth metals, such as magnesium, with iron and slag-forming metalloids, such as silicon, boron, for deoxidation of iron and steel to use. However, the document does not give the way for the production of such a magnesium-containing one Alloy. Another suggestion to avoid the explosive effects of adding magnesium to iron and steel is contained in Swedish Patent Specification 261 of Feb. 8, 1905. These describes the supply of gaseous magnesium to iron and steel. These. Feeding way is not without danger and on top of that it is also extremely cumbersome, so that they in no way guarantee that the deoxidation has been carried out conscientiously offers, The present method, however, ensures safe working and can also be used comfortably with the largest batches *
Is the iron or steel in this pulpy If so, the absorption of magnesium proceeds smoothly. Since it is not accessible now is, in the production of iron or steel castings, the entire melt cools down so far to let that a safe introduction of the magnesium can take place, so will a master alloy was produced in the way described, which, either still pulpy or made liquid again, added to the iron or stabilizing bath to be deoxidized, or
Man verfährt z. B. derart, daß man die Zuschlage zuerst mit Magnesium legiert und diese Legierung dann in Eisen- oder Stahlguß zur Herstellung der Vorlegierung in der beschriebenen Weise einführt.can be cast in ingots and in the same way as all other surcharges, z. B. aluminum, ferrosilicon or ferromanganese, to which cast iron is added. Iron is extraordinarily little receptive to magnesium and. here stands in contrast to Copper, aluminum, nickel, etc., however, one can easily obtain one in the manner described Ferromagnesium, which contains a few percent magnesium. For complete deoxidation 100 kg of cast iron or steel are sufficient, depending on the quality of the material used 15 to 50 grams of magnesium; you have to z. B. from a master alloy that contains 1 percent magnesium contains, add 1.5 to 5 kg to 100 kg of iron ore cast steel. Do you want the iron or Cast steel still further surcharges of other metals, z. B. nickel, aluminum, so you can introduce this into the master alloy. One proceeds z. B. in such a way that you get the surcharge first alloyed with magnesium and this alloy then cast in iron or steel to produce the master alloy described in the Way introduces.
