Description
The invention relates to a magnetic lens arrangement as described in the preamble of claim 1 is specified.
There is a lens arrangement that is completely free of ferromagnetic material, which is the case with other known objective lens arrangements for electron microscopes to guide the field flux in this ferromagnetic material. In the lens arrangement known from the aforementioned publication, so-called shielding cylinders are used made of superconducting material provided, which have a shielding effect on the magnetic field, so that the for Focusing provided magnetic field in such a lens arrangement with superconducting shielding cylinders is located at least substantially outside the material of this cylinder and in the there
ίο vorgesehenen Linsenspalt eindringt, wo die Fokussierung des Korpuskularstrahles erfolgtίο provided lens gap penetrates where the focusing of the corpuscular beam takes place
Hierfür ist es notwendig,For a high resolution of a lens arrangement as mentioned above, it is essential that To keep opening errors small. For this it is necessary
Mit Abschirmzylinder aus supraleitendem Material wurde eine geringe Halbwertsbreite im Linsenspalt erreicht Zwar kann im Prinzip durch Verringerung der Spaltbreite die Halbwertsbreite verkleinert werden, jedoch nimmt, wie festgestellt wurde, bei einer solchen Anordnung dann die maximale Feldstärke Hn im Spalt ab.ι s to keep the so-called half width for the known field distribution on the axis of the lens arrangement in the lens gap as small as possible with the highest possible field strength Ho in the lens gap, ie. to achieve a large field gradient in the gap. With a shielding cylinder made of superconducting material, a small half-width was achieved in the lens gap. Although the half-width can in principle be reduced by reducing the width of the gap, as has been found, the maximum field strength H n in the gap then decreases with such an arrangement.
As already mentioned above, other well-known Objective lens arrangements are used construction parts made of ferromagnetic material, whereby the field flux and the field guidance takes place in this ferromagnetic material German patent specification 914 532 a magnetic lens arrangement is known in which the lens winding in a capsule forming an iron connection, the opposing one is located on the Electron beam surrounding hollow cylindrical parts of the capsule attached annular pole pieces ferromagnetic material has the field fiow up to the lens gap in the iron or the ferromagnetic material This lens arrangement is made entirely of ferromagnetic material represents the standard arrangement for electron microscope lens arrangements Problems of magnetic field guidance that occur in arrangements are quite different from those problems those in connection with the lens arrangements with superconducting shielding cylinders of the German Offenlegungsschrift 15 64 714 occur. It is from Comptes Rendus 1967, Series B, Vol. 264, p. 747 to 750 known, instead of a lens coil made of normal conducting copper wire, a coil made of superconducting Material to use. This exchange of material only serves to increase the number of ampere turns increase, while avoiding the occurrence of JouF's heat. On the course of the magnetic flux in the ferromagnetic material of the lens arrangement according to this article from Comptes Rendus has the Use of the superconducting magnetic field coil has no effect.
DieseThis article from Comptes Rendus also describes the magnetic field yoke made of iron Add ferromagnetic holmium or dysprosium pole pieces, as shown in the Fig. 3a there can also be seen constructively. These
However, as can also be seen there from the field profile graphically reproduced in FIGS. 2a, 2b and 3b in the area of the lens gap, result from the
Das Auftreten von Nebenlinsen, die erheblici. von der Glaser'schen Glockenkurve (siehe auch F i g. 3b) abweichen, ist außerordentlich unerwünschtJoints between the ferromagnetic iron and the other ferromagnetic material secondary maxima of the field, which form so-called secondary lenses. The appearance of minor lenses that erheblici. of the Glaser's bell curve (see also Fig. 3b) deviate is extremely undesirable
In US-PS 30 08 044 and in Compter Rendus 1969, Series B, Vol. 268, pp. 1707-1710, are still wide-e lens arrangements with superconducting coils and specified ferromagnetic flux guidance up to the pole pieces.
Dadurch wird is vermieden, daß der magnetische Ruß aus den ferromagnetischen Polschuhen außerhalb des Bereiches der Polschuhspitzen austritt, und es wird daher eine bessere Konzentration des magnetischen !7IuBeS im Linsenspalt erreichtIn a lens arrangement according to the US patent, the pole pieces are as far as the lens gap, but not further than this, with a shield made of superconducting material! surround. This prevents the magnetic soot from escaping from the ferromagnetic pole pieces outside the area of the pole piece tips, and therefore a better concentration of the magnetic! 7 IuBeS reached in the lens gap
In the lens arrangement of the last-mentioned article from Comptes Rendus, a ferromagnetic yoke is also provided for field guidance, which is additionally provided with two shielding cylinders made of superconducting material surrounding the electron beam on both sides of the lens gap.As Fig. 4 there shows, the addition of the cylinders changes the course of the bell curve of the field distribution, but only in the area of the bell edge. In contrast, the maximum Bm of the field and its half-value width turns out to be independent of the presence of such cylinders.
The object of the present invention is to increase the in a lens arrangement according to Main patent 15 64 714 to achieve practically achievable maximum field strength in the lens gap and a simple possibility to influence the field course in the lens gap.
Diese Aufgabe wird für eine wie im Oberbegriff des Patentanspruches 1 angegebene Linsenanordnung erfindungsgemäß gelöst, wie dies im Kennzeichen des Patentanspruches 1 angegeben istThis object is achieved according to the invention for a lens arrangement as specified in the preamble of claim 1 solved, as indicated in the characterizing part of claim 1
It is particularly advantageous as a ferromagnetic material for the in addition to the superconducting Pole shoes provided for shielding cylinders can be used instead of the usual iron holmium or dysprosium.
In the case of a lens arrangement according to the invention, as in the case of that according to the main patent Advantage of low space requirements, since the superconducting body provided for the shielding cylinder - Compared to ferromagnetic bodies that conduct magnetic flux - only a relatively small wall thickness for already complete shielding.
With the invention, the solution has now been found, according to which the advantages of the high shielding effect of superconducting material with the magnetic field-concentrating effect of a ferromagnetic material can be advantageously used in combination with one another and, thanks to the special design of the pole pieces made of ferromagnetic material, a simple way of influencing the Field distribution in the lens gap can be achieved. It is also advantageous that in the inventive solution by the only additional ferromagnetic material of the pole pieces no usable for the lens windings space in the assembly and near the Spali lost Comparatively to the known embodiment from exclusively superconducting material is achieved with the inventive lens assembly with the same external field H , the lens windings have a higher field strength H 0 on the axis with an even lower half width.
Die Erfindung wird an einem Ausführungsbeispiel in Verbindung mit der Zeichnung näher erläutertThe invention is explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment in conjunction with the drawing
F i g. 1 zeigt eine Gesamtdarstellung einer Linsenanordnung. F i g. 2 zeigt die Polschuhe.F i g. 1 shows an overall view of a lens arrangement. F i g. 2 shows the pole pieces.
The superconducting shielding cylinders are denoted by 2 and the outer superconducting shielding of the lens windings belonging to these cylinders is denoted by 4. The lens windings and the shields are in liquid helium. The interior of the shielding cylinder 2 is free from magnetic fields. The pole shoes 6 made of ferromagnetic material are axially aligned adjacent to the end faces 5 of the shielding cylinder 2 They are in sufficient thermal contact with the shielding cylinders or the other cooled parts. The magnetic field of the lens windings 1 pushes between the end faces 5 into the gap between the shielding cylinders 2 into it. In particular as a result of the high saturation magnetization of the pole shoes, a high field strength H 0 with a small half-width can be achieved in the area of the axis of the lens arrangement. A field strength Ho = 60 k OE was easily achieved with a half width of 6 mm.
The adjustment of the otherwise exactly constructed lens arrangement is made by shifting the pole shoes This adjustment is facilitated by the fact that the pole pieces themselves are not in liquid helium need to lie down. For the latter reason, the gap for the object to be introduced (not shown) more accessible.
Durch entsprechende Ausgestaltung der Flächen 5, 7, 8 und Wahl des Durchmessers der Bohrung in 2 und/oder 6, kann in prinzipiell bekannter Weise der Feldverlauf im Spalt beeinflußt werden.F i g. 2 shows in a detail view on an enlarged scale the shaping for the Pole shoes using the example of a pole shoe. The surface 5 and the surface 7 are conical surfaces. Between the End face 5 of the shielding cylinder 2 and the adjoining end face 7 of the ring-shaped Poischuhes arises due to the differently selected cone angles of the opposing surfaces 5 and 7 an annular and wedge-shaped gap. By appropriate design of the surfaces 5, 7, 8 and Selection of the diameter of the bore in 2 and / or 6, the field profile in the known manner in principle Gap can be influenced.
