Description
The invention relates to the use of filler wire electrodes for electric arc welding, in particular submerged arc welding of galvanized or primed workpieces made of steel.
It is known that workpieces made of steel are provided with rust protection in many technical fields of application Mistake. These anti-rust agents, which are usually referred to as primers, are essentially two groups are known, namely the iron oxide primers and the zinc primers.
It is also known to have certain difficulties in arc welding such primed workpieces occur, for which no solution has been known so far, especially in machine welding which would be satisfactory both technically and economically. These difficulties consist primarily of the strong evaporation and smoke formation that the primer components cause and which disturb the evenness of the inert gas atmosphere during inert gas welding and in submerged arc welding, the creation of a smooth surface by influencing the slag cavity prevent the weld seam. Since the solvent of the primer has different components, for example Hydrogen, which evaporate in the arc, can also easily create undesirable porosity arise in the weld metal.
So erfordert z. The known solutions for avoiding these difficulties have not only technical disadvantages result in a considerable effort and are therefore generally unsustainable from an economic point of view. So requires z. B. the mechanical removal of the primer layers before welding an additional Expenditure, especially in large-scale production lines, for example in shipbuilding, by no means can be accepted. However, so-called welding aids have also become known which based on the known fact that the influence of hydrogen or moisture through halogens, can be combated in particular by fluorine, fluorine-containing constituents, in particular fluorocarbon compounds included (DT-PS 11 90 597). It has been shown here that these compounds also are able to largely suppress the adverse effects of zinc vapors. The fluorinated Hydrocarbons are either the powdery ones Welding aids or the coating compounds for electrodes added
Insbeson-The use of such halogen compounds which decompose at high temperatures, in particular Fluorocarbon compounds, in practice, however, has so far always failed because it is extremely difficult to bring these compounds into the welding aids in such a way that they come into full effect. In particular
dere hat es sich gezeigt, daß ein homogenes Einbringen der Fluorkohlenstoff-Verbindungen in das Schweißpulver für die Unterpulverschweißung weder durch Mischen oder Einschmelzen noch durch Agglomerieren oder Aufspritzen in befriedigender Weise gelingt.it has been shown that a homogeneous introduction neither by mixing the fluorocarbon compounds in the flux for submerged arc welding or melting still succeeds in a satisfactory manner by agglomeration or spraying.
Brauchbare Schweißergebnisse können beim Unterpulverschweißen deshalb nur erzielt werden, wenn ein Vielfaches der an sich erforderlichen Menge dieser Verbindungen verwendet wird, was jedoch bei dem hohen Preis dieser Verbindungen aus wirtschaftlichenUseful welding results can therefore only be achieved with submerged arc welding if a A multiple of the amount of these compounds required per se is used, which is, however, at the high level Price of these compounds from economic
το reasons is completely intolerable and also at the expense of other necessary properties of the welding powder, for example its flowability. Finally, it is not possible to add these compounds in gaseous form to the shielding gas during gas-shielded welding due to the poisoning of the surrounding atmosphere that occurs in the necessarily high concentrations.
From DT-OS 18 00 116 cored wire electrodes are also known, in the filling of which inorganic fluorine compounds, such as B. sodium fluoride are included. These electrodes are used for wear-resistant welding of steel parts. An improvement in the welding of galvanized or primed workpieces is not achieved by this.
The invention is based on the object of providing a possibility for electric arc welding, in particular submerged arc welding, to find galvanized or primed workpieces made of steel that satisfied both technically and economically.
This object is achieved through the use of cored wire electrodes containing halogenated polymers, in particular fluorocarbon compounds, in an amount by weight of at most 3%, preferably 0.5 to 1% of the total weight of the cored wire electrode.
The essential idea on which the invention is based is therefore that of the intended Purpose known halogen compounds not, as in the previous proposals, a Welding aids, but the welding filler material itself, d. H. the electrode. The technical and the economic importance attached to this idea of the invention is that the Use of a filler wire electrode containing the halogen compounds is possible because of this uniform introduction of these compounds into the weld puddle has the consequence that the significantly lower Amounts of halogen compounds than was previously thought possible are already sufficient to achieve the to achieve the desired effect. In particular, the inventive manner of use is Halogen connections possible without in any way the welding auxiliary
6 S medium - with inert gas welding of the shielding gas, with submerged arc welding of the welding flux - to disturb.
Es hat sich gezeigt, daß bereits Mengen von 0,5%It has been shown that even amounts of 0.5%
When trying to find the effective fluorocarbon compounds by agglomerating to bind to the powder, more than 2 percent by weight of these compounds in the welding powder were necessary, to have any effect at all. The proportion related to the remelted wire would be even higher. In consideration of the increase in cost due to the use of expensive halogen compounds in itself, this small amount of 0.5% of the total weight of the electrode is an exceptional one Advantage of the electrode according to the invention, which is particularly noticeable then, when the halogen compounds are fluorocarbon compounds are. These small amounts of the halogen compounds used can also be used do not fear any significant poisoning of the atmosphere. Gas shielded welding using Finally, of halogen compounds, which until now »have not been used at all because of the risk of poisoning could be, through the inventive use of containing halogenated polymers Cored wire electrodes only possible.
The filler wire electrode used according to the invention can be used as a filling only at high temperatures contain decomposing halogenated polymers. The cavity of the filler wire electrode can then be very small be echoed. It has been shown, however, that metals in powder form are also advantageously added to the filling can be used to deoxidize and / or refine the solidification of the weld metal. For example Such a filler wire electrode can be one or more of the metals in addition to halogen compounds Contains silicon, aluminum, titanium, niobium, manganese, vanadium and zirconium.
As already mentioned, the inventive Use of cored wire electrodes for both inert gas welding and submerged arc welding take place. In a further development of the inventive concept, namely the halogen compounds not the Welding aids, rather than adding welding consumables, was used for submerged arc welding a welding process developed specifically for the inventive use of filler wire electrodes is tailored and the perfect mastery of welding processes on galvanized or primed Allows workpieces made of steel.
With this use according to the invention, several electrodes are attached one behind the other to the seam guided along, wherein the first or the first electrodes are cored wire electrodes, the halogenated polymers, especially fluorocarbon compounds. For example, if three electrodes are used the first of these electrodes is a filler wire electrode that contains halogen compounds as a filling and, among other things, serves to remove the interfering layers, while the following electrodes are arbitrary are electrodes adapted to the present purpose. It has been shown to work this way without Difficulties and without prior machining of the workpiece surfaces on an industrial scale Steel sheets can be welded together, which have the most varied of layers can. Surprisingly, not only primed or galvanized sheets, but also damp and rusty metal sheets are perfectly welded, which is particularly important for shipbuilding.
