The production of cadmium benzoate and its methods have recently been of particular interest found, since cadmium benzoate plays an important role as a component for plastic stabilizers. It a number of processes for the production of cadmium benzoate have become known, but they are not fully satisfy, as they are either too expensive, too cumbersome or too tedious. So became after a process benzoic acid dissolved in water and cadmium metal in the aqueous solution by a electric arc or electric spark in a fine form atomized, with itself To form cadmium benzoate. According to a general process for the preparation of metal salts organic acids, one puts sodium benzoate in alcohol with the chlorides or sulfates of Metals around. The two aforementioned methods are because of the use of electrical Aggregates or from alcohol expensive and cumbersome. Further processes that take place in the aqueous phase Use of benzoic acid and cadmium salts or slurried cadmium oxide work serious drawbacks including the need to use large volumes of liquid, the Crystallization and possibly leaching like this consist of foreign ions. The inventive method avoids the disadvantages mentioned and also allows very short production times for the cadmium benzoate. Because it became a process found for the production of cadmium benzoate from cadmium oxide and benzoic acid, characterized in that that the starting components are heated in an autoclave between 140 and 190 ° C, the melt drains and, after cooling, grinds. It has been shown that in this way of working already A quantitative conversion has already taken place after one hour of heating at 170 ° C. The application higher temperatures increase the rate of conversion, but there are limits to the temperature increase set, since above about 200 ° C decomposition can occur with the formation of a yellowish product. For this reason, heating at 170 ° C. for 1 hour is advantageous. The used Amounts of cadmium oxide and benzoic acid are stoichiometric. If necessary, a small one can be Excess benzoic acid can be used. Large surpluses, on the other hand, are to be avoided, as this will result in them the end product becomes contaminated. While according to the above method, a cadmium benzoate with 1 mole of water of crystallization can - if necessary - by adding 1 mole of water each Moles of cadmium benzoate to be formed, an end product containing 2 moles of water can be obtained. This In terms of the water of crystallization, the product corresponds to the commercially available products. In the Reaction temperature of 170 ° C develops a pressure of about 6 to 7 atmospheres, under which you can Blow reaction product out of the autoclave. The cadmium benzoate falls as a light, foamy A mass that can be grinded well after cooling and is already a product higher without washing Represents purity Emptying the autoclave under pressure is given preference as a unpressurized emptying of the melt results in a dense melt cake, which is poor on the grind the desired fineness.
33 kg of benzoic acid and 17.3 kg of cadmium oxide are mixed in a conventional mixer and 2.5 kg Sprayed with water. This mixture is heated in a stirred autoclave for 1 hour at 170 ° C and then under Pressure released. The resulting light, foamy product is ground in a pin mill after it has cooled down.
