Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAMT.PATENT OFFICE.
Der Vorteil, der mit der Erfindung erlangt wird, besteht darin, daß der Wassergehalt des Alkohols aus dem Carbid Acetylen und Wärme freimacht, die beide das Alkohol-LuftgemischThe invention relates to a method for producing fuel gas "and is characterized essentially by the fact that a mixture of dilute alcohol and Air is passed over calcium carbide. The advantage obtained with the invention consists in that the water content of the alcohol consists of the carbide acetylene and heat clears both of the alcohol-air mixture
ίο für Motorzwecke geeignet machen.ίο make it suitable for motor purposes.
In the accompanying drawing there is diagrammatically an embodiment of the apparatus for the new procedure presented.
An inlet b leads into the combustion chamber α and communicates with an alcohol feed line c via a chamber β. The air enters under pressure at d and hits the supplied alcohol at an oblique angle, causing it to be atomized. In the container β there is calcium carbide on a queue grid f. A funnel g with valve h is used to refill the container e. The atomized alcohol, which is mixed with air, goes on its way to the combustion chamber α through the container e. In this, the mixture acts on the carbide, the water and carbide present generating acetylene gas, which then mixes with the combustion agent passing through, while the heat liberated in e supports the further evaporation of the atomized alcohol. The mixture is then in the state of an easily combustible gas before it enters the combustion chamber. A pipe i, which is connected to the exhaust of the engine or to the cooling water, can be passed around the container e in order to heat the carbide. The amount of water present in the alcohol used as a fuel in connection with the water-removing agent used can vary within suitable limits. The commercial denatured alcohol is commonly used as a fuel, which usually contains 10 percent water. Should it appear desirable to use ethyl alcohol (C 2 H 6 O) or methyl alcohol (CH i O) or both, an appropriate amount of water must be added.
