Abstract

A telescopic strut for a motorcycle, or for a bicycle, has three sections ( 1, 2, 3) and two inline springs (4, 5) to provide an optimised reaction to deflections in the suspension. The lower section (1) is connected to the wheel(6) and has an inner spring (4) whose upper end is supported under the closed top (7) of the middle telescopic section (2). The upper spring (5), which has a different characteristic to that of the lower spring, is positioned between the top of the closed section and the inside top of the upper section. By choice of the relative characteristics of the two springs an improved damping control is obtained over a wide range deflections. The springs can be coil springs or gas springs.
